I went to see a really cool exhibit yesterday. It tells the entire story of the Titanic tragedy. You see re-creations of the 3rd class and 1st class cabins, and it is jam packed full of actual artifacts recovered from the bottom of the ocean at the site where the pieces of the ship finally landed. You see lots of personal items of passengers...jewelry, personal papers, suitcases, articles of clothing, eyeglasses, postcards, luggage tags, shaving kits, etc. And there's an "iceberg room" where you learn all about the hours prior to the collision with the iceberg. They even have an actual iceberg that you can touch so that you can get an idea of just how cold the water was when the passengers hit it. Most of them died from hypothermia rather than drowning. It was a very sobering exhibit, IMHO. If you're a history buff and/or a Titanic buff, I would definitely recommend going to see this. discoverytsx.com/nyc/exhibitions.php?id=1000Wow!!!! I hope this exhibit goes on a U.S. Tour, and visits Chicago! But I can't find anything yet that says so.

No. Never got to happen. Woulda-coulda been cool. I had thought she was staying over here for longer. Ooops. Oh well. I looked forward to getting a free BnJs ice cream on the Navy Pier too dangit!. ;D **************** I really miss school. Even all the homewrok n crap too, yes. I had to recently help a friend through a problem I similarly had 2 years ago for a class, and I had to refresh myself even to get a bead on it. Bummer.

I'm pretty sure if you go down to Navy Pier now and tell my boss Paula that you know me she'd give you all the free ice cream you could fit down your throat! She loved us! ;D I was bummed we didnt get to meet too,the summer went far to fast! I'm having big Chicago withdrawal symptoms though so I will definitely be back some time in (hopefully) the near future! Anyway before that happens I think we should have a great big CRCR meet-up!

The left channel of my stereo receiver is going out. Might as well rip out my heart and eat with a knife and fork.

Sorry TWC. ebay! Actually there are a few thrift stores that I see vintage stereo equipment in all the time, if that's what you're looking for (as well as guitars, got my eye on a resonator guitar at the local ARC thrift store).

About 20 minutes after I turn on the receiver I start hearing pops and crackles coming from my left speakers. I assume, because a friend told me so, that my left channel is going out. I can still listen to music but it's unpleasant.
I will either get this one fixed, buy a new one, or use a hand-me-down. I have two friends who have offered to give me used equipment that's not being used. Both friends are out of towners, so it could be awhile.
In the meantime I can still listen to music on my computer, which is connected to a bedroom stereo, so I'm not completely music less, but I prefer listening to music in the comfort of my living room.

You've checked all the speaker wires? I use the elephant type, the big speaker wire, a few times we've had to splice the wire and start over, too much fray. ??

What is too much fray? I just finished re-wiring the left speakers and I'm still getting distortion. I get no distortion out of the right channel, and it's the same speaker wire. I don't know if it would do any good to buy new speaker wire seeing that I'm getting no distortion from the right side. What to do, what to do!

Hey TWC, how old is this stereo reciever?... out of curiosity. I have a 22 yr old Yamaha rack system, and lately I get spits and crackles when I raise (and sometimes lower) the volume during lower levels, but only during volume changes. My speakers are ideal and newer, as is their wires, but I wonder if a component of the amplifier is beginning to...keel over..?? Just when you are sure it can last forever........ ugh.

The wires fray after a while, then you cut, splice & reattach. ?? Make sense? So it has a good connection. I only say this because I've had this problem in the past - and it was the wire. If you just reattached it and the wires were solid and had a good connection, then they're probably fine.

Hey TWC, how old is this stereo reciever?... out of curiosity. I'm not really sure. I got it in 2002 used. It's a Pioneer VSX-604S. Here's the story on how I got it. My father bought it new sometime in the 90's (I think). He set up a home theater in the den. Mother didn't like it! Because of mother, dad never used it, it just sat there. In 2002 Bowie's 'Heathen' was released. I was laying on the couch listening to the CD and I smelled something burning during the song "Slow Burn". My Kenwood amp (bought new in 1977) fried during that song. I was laughing so hard I couldn't get mad. I mean it fried during the song "Slow Burn". How funny is that? Anyway, since my dad wasn't using his Pioneer he gave it to me. That was in 2002. The most use its gotten is in the 7 years that I've owned it. But to answer your question, again, I really have no idea how old it is. I'm guessing 15 to 20 years. But as I said, it didn't really get used until I acquired it.
