I think SONY is eying that No. 1
They will amass heavy streams due to curiosity, sales should be solid due to the promo, country and pop radio are slated to play it, and they’re also dropping a music video with it as well. I would not be surprised if it debuts in top spot on the country chart.

I like your optimism but I am skeptic that Country radio will play it.
Hopefully they get on a night time talk show too. SNL would also be nice!

They really won’t need radio to get to #1. However, it is being sent to country radio. Our biggest station here in the Shoals (Alabama) hyped it up today and said listeners were more open to it than they expected.
Keep in mind, it’s a country pop station and the largest one we have in this area.

That's good news - but Muscle Shoals' musical heritage is more diverse, and arguably more open to political opinions, than might be typical of some other Country centres. In any case, it would be wrong to assume that the whole "Heartland" is one monolithic bloc when it comes to what they might be receptive to.
How high the album debuts on the Billboard chart will depend on sales -and as you say, the curiosity factor and the anticipation for new work should count significantly there. Radio is more relevant to singles' performance, and even a radio boycott would not have a big effect on the album debut as such. For singles, there are two Country charts - Hot Country Songs takes account of play on all-genre stations, and also the medium of streaming (hardly developed in the Chicks' heyday, but now a major alternative to commercial radio's limited playlists). I'd expect the Chicks to do better there. The other chart is the Country Airplay chart, which seems likely to be the harder nut to crack, overall. There, quite apart from remaining or revived political hostility, I think the nature of the music itself will play an important part. The commercial Country stations today are very receptive to (or even dominated by) Pop - but it tends to be bland, predictable, stereotyped Pop that gets played. If the new album is perceived as too musically Progressive or Alternative, the corporate programmers are unlikely to embrace it.
I'm afraid I can't comment on the Pop stations themselves, of whatever type, as I have no interest or experience in that direction. (I'm not dismissing them, but I'll leave that area to others.)

The song may tank on the country airplay chart lol. Who knows. But the hot country songs chart is the big one and their sales and streams should be enough to make up for it. The number one song on that chart usually doesn’t get higher than #15 on the hot 100.
And billboard has raised the impact of digital sales on the chart 5 times in the last year and a half.

There is also a gaslighter ad EVERYWHERE online right now. It’s just the word with the dictionary definition. SONY really is going all out 😂

Hopefully the Ellen interview/performance will be posted on YouTube ASAP cause that will be my only way of watching it. We are one week away from a new chicks song, y'all! Feels so surreal. I always knew they'd make another album, at the very least because they were contractually obligated to, but it's still so hard to believe that it's right around the corner! Had another stress dream about them last night, this time it took place at a concert.
Taylor Swift helped bring in a new wave of country fans, so I think country radio has a more diverse fanbase now than ever before. I think that's why we've seen such a drastic change in musical style over the last decade or more. Country artists are trying harder to appeal more to the masses with that beat bop crap. I doubt there will be a mass radio boycott like there was in the past. I can definitely picture the chicks being played on country radio here in Wichita, which is a pretty open minded area. Plus Bobby Bones will likely not shy away from potential controversy, and he has a huge following. Probably bigger than any country radio DJ in the country, I'm assuming. If he was willing to play a Gaslighter snippet a couple weeks ago, I'm sure he'll play it upon it's release.

Hopefully the Ellen interview/performance will be posted on YouTube ASAP cause that will be my only way of watching it. If you have an Android phone or streaming device (think Firestick) there are apps to sideload which will allow you to watch the show (or insert favorite show) when it's convenient for you. It's definitely surreal to think we will finally have new music from them! It's been too long!

Music aside, The thought of seeing the three of them sitting together again and doing an interview in the context of a Chicks album, not a tour or any side project, is something that gives me heart palpitations. It's a wild image. Im anxious to see how much their dynamic has changed or, on the flip side, how they've stayed the same. If i had a choice, id love to see them on Graham Norton. He does a great job at making guests feel comfortable and he naturally leads genuine and interesting conversations that Ellen just can't do as well. Thats my opinion though.

That's tough! I was especially hoping for the live performance, as that is likely to highlight the instrumentation more clearly than the recording

What a most ridiculous comment.. If Ellen is still a lesbian as if she can change her sexuality overnight? LOL

Thanks for posting those, nedcfan!
I've only had time to watch the first one so far - but I enjoyed that performance far more than I enjoyed the recorded version of "Gaslighter"! This is a band that really shines live.
A bit dark to identify everyone, but I definitely saw Keith Sewell on acoustic guitar and support vocals, and Jimmy Paxson on drums, and I think I saw Glenn Fukunaga on bass - all those have played with the Chicks before - two of them for many years. (The keyboard player's name may click with some of you, but I'm afraid, offhand, I couldn't identify him in that video)

Not gonna lie, seeing ellen holding that CD with THAT cover makes me worried. Im hoping that that design isnt the actual album.
It was a nice interview overall though

eh I never let a cover of a CD influence my reaction to the music LOL Yeah, well, you don't have to remind Carrie fans in that department... (The traditional idea is that the cover art can attract casual buyers browsing through racks in stores - but music consumption is so different these days that that idea becomes more and more marginal)
