Good news for fans of the Dixie Chicks! The country trio has confirmed that a new album is coming...someday. The news came from lead singer Natalie Maines' Instagram account, where Maines shared a video of herself, bandmates Emily Robison and Martie Maguire and producer Jack Antonoff all employing a baby-face filter to share the news. popculture.com/country-music/2019/06/27/dixie-chicks-promise-new-album-coming-soon/

Jack Antonoff producing does that make it less likley to be a country album?

It all depends on how one looks at the country genre as it is today--which is, in my opinion, almost totally unrecognizable. Whatever the DCX have in mind, it won't sound like anything else on country radio, or any other format for that matter (IMHO).

From the snippets Natalie has played, I don't think it sounds country at all. I get more of a CYH vibe from what little I have heard; except for the one song which sounds like it's taking aim at Adrian.

You can see her posts (not her live videos), without signing up.

Apparently Nat's soon to be ex-husband is demanding to have access to the new DCX material to make sure he is not being talked about, per their prenuptial agreement. The BootAdrian seems to want his cake & eat it too. He initially claimed the prenup was invalid; now he wants to make sure new music doesn't violate the confidentiality agreement of said "invalid" prenup? 🙄 Wow.

The same person on twitter who confirmed the new album and producer to me over a year ago is now saying that SONY is marketing this album as mainstream pop but will classify it as country so they will have an easy path to #1 on the country singles chart. Two music videos have been filmed. And hinted there will be a documentary. But the big news here is that pop radio and VH1 will play huge roles in the cycle of this album. The first single has been selected but she wouldn’t say because that’s all she knows. No title. But Diane Martel is heavily involved with the new image. So. Lots to look forward to.

If all this is true its kinda menacing, in the best way, like they've got all this stuff built up and ready to drop on us. I do remember Natalie posting all of them getting their hair and make-up done and then posting a professional looking camera later, so maybe the music video part is true. I'm hoping it's true. Who is this person who confirmed this information though? are they credible?

The information doesn't surprise me - though, as a personal reaction, the direction they're going seems likely to be a disappointment for me. Notwithstanding that, I wish them well in fulfilling their hopes for the project.

Oh they’re credible lol. But they’re not quite finished with the album. She mentioned some bonus tracks so they’re finishing up some stuff like that. But even a year ago, she said she knew for a fact that SONY was planning to push this album hard. And this will be the first Chicks release in the age of streaming and they plan to be able to drive a lot of sales and streams with their first single. So. Who knows. From what she’s heard, she’s compared it more to FLY and that Martie and Emily’s roles are much more prominent. I forgot to post some of the info here because nobody ever responds. So I didn’t see the point. But anyways, I’m more excited about the alleged documentary which will apparently include the 2016 tour. So that’s kind of cool. The musical direction is interesting given that the last album was so dark and mum. Julia Michaels and some other pop stars are co-writers on some tracks as we’ve seen on Instagram. And their website is weird and clunky right now so they’re probably in the process of a redesign. Some of this info you can find on Instagram by different photographers. I’m interested to see how this all plays out considering country radio stations have asked that it be sent to them. Which I find weird.

And I think she meant the first music video and a behind the scenes video has been filmed and edited. Not two separate music videos.

("Fly" was probably my favourite album, and I've been following Martie and Emily for longer than Natalie). The general direction does sound less appealing - but I'll keep an open mind till I hear the whole work!

So I didn’t see the point. But anyways, I’m more excited about the alleged documentary which will apparently include the 2016 tour. Emily and Martie's envolvement/musical influence is one of my major concerns about this new album, i'm worried that as the group heads more towards pop their presence in the music would be lost, so it's nice to hear that they're a bit more prominent. Im also excited to see how the three of them regroup and refine what they showed us with their solo projects and court yard hounds stuff. As underwhelming as some of the solo stuff sometimes was, there were also some really strong moments.
For the documentery, im guessing its gonna mostly be a behind the scenes look at making the album? it's weird to put out a doc focusing the tour that they already did a special on. I dont know. considering their last doc, i'm not sure what the purpose of the new one is gonna be, i feel like they've pretty much covered the whole issue.

I’m assuming it would chronicle the tour and give a glimpse of the success of it and how that maybe played a part in returning to the studio? I don’t know. That’s speculation. However, there’s a lot of banjo on this album. Even the song about sexual assault has banjo. So I mean, maybe that was taken into consideration. From the clips I’ve heard, it’s back to strong harmony and instrumental solos. We’ve heard snippets of at least 7 songs now and they all sound fly-ish. But I haven’t yet heard a single pedal steel riff. So. Maybe that’s an indication of a little more pop sound. Idk. I’d imagine this next tour will be very similar to the MMXVI due to the fact they know they can sellout again. This last Tour out performed Carrie Underwood and Florida Georgia Line in average attendance and per show gross. So. They’re back in the market they need to be to make high dollar gains. I just hope jack antonoff doesn’t push them so far into the mainstream pop circuit that they alienate what country fans they have left and the ones who have come back to them over the years. They’re in the absolute perfect position right now to make this album huge and fingers crossed they don’t kick it off with a political rant and it all comes crashing down again.
