The Album name is..... Gaslighter I just heard this on the podcast that Natalie just did aswell. Getting the name and hearing that they've started planning for the tour is really exciting and it makes the whole thing feel more real and impending... even though the host said that he thinks the album is coming out in 2020.

Quote by sthdvs2012: Rather appropriate title (IMHO). That it is.

The Album name is..... Gaslighter I didn't hear the podcast, so I don't know whether anything was said by way of explanation of that title. But "gaslighter" is a term used in psychology to refer to abusers who try to discredit complainants by accusing them of lying, exaggerating or experiencing false memories. If there is a song about sexual abuse on the album. that may be the source of the title - which would certainly be topical in today's climate

The song about sexual assault is “Everybody Loves You” a ballad.

Thanks for the info. I haven't heard any of the songs, or seen a tracklist, so I'm a bit in the dark there. As examples of their more recent styles, I'd be hoping for something rather like Emily's "Ain't No Son" (from the first CYH album), or this version of "Voice Inside My Head" performed live on the AOL sessions. Voice inside my headKeith Sewell (their long time acoustic guitarist, seated between Emily and Natalie in this video) was the musical director for many of their live performances on recent tours, and I'd be happy if he was involved again. Nat played a snippet of Gaslighter on an IG live a while ago. My immediate thought was "I wonder if Adrian has heard this?"

There's an article on Kyle Coroneos' site "Saving Country Music", giving some quotes from Natalie, from the Podcast referred to in earlier posts. (The details are not on the content of the album, but rather on Natalie's motivation for making it. As people have suspected, the break up of her second marriage has been a major factor in her decision to get back into songwriting) Saving Country MusicAs to be expected, his article drew a mixed bag of comments - but I thought this one gave the most interesting perspective: "The Chicks always stood for good songs & good stories performed with heaping helpings of stringed instrumentation and minimal studio trickery.
Just thinking about where Mainstream Country would be right now of it had gone in the Chicks direction back in the 2000’s instead of the Toby Keith direction with all the overproduced, bombastic, jingoistic, pandering, gimmicky… ugh. Well it still annoys me to no end.
The O Brother soundtrack was blowing minds, Bob Dylan was knee deep in Roots music, Dolly Parton was reviving Bluegrass, Rodney Crowell and Patty Loveless and Elvis Costello and Lucinda Williams and a million other artists were all on board… and America chose bro Country. America chose the grandstanding, reductive, oversimplifications of patriotic Country. and America chose to start purging women from Country radio.
The Chicks are an unwelcome reminder of those times and maybe they won’t ever be embraced by the majority ever again irregardless of Swift’s endorsement but… They. Were. Right. All along. They were 100% in the right. and It’s too bad that their new music will be lost on an audience full of people who will refuse to listen whilst complaining about the current state of Country playlists. We could’ve had it so good."

In all fairness, I don't think the bombast in country music started with Toby Keith, but arguably with Garth Brooks' introduction of arena-rock theatrics in his concerts. But what Mr. "Courtesy Of The Red, White, And Blue" did indeed bring to the table was the revival of the notion that country music was strictly the province of the allegedly "patriotic" American Right, to be followed by the Muzik Mafia (Big & Rich, etc.) in 2004-2005, and then Bro Country, starting more or less in 2012.
Is it any wonder that Linda Ronstadt, whose musical DNA encompassed C&W among many other styles and who likely influenced the Chicks (at least on The Long Way Around), thought that the genre had devolved into "mall crawler music", a one-size-oughtta-fit-all Walmart mentality approach?
In any case, it will be interesting to see what kind of an album Gaslighter turns out to be. If what we hear is true, it could actually be a mélange of their previous albums (IMHO).

While I believe this album title unfortunately feels as though it has a truth in the narrative of the current political climate, I do wonder if that’s not what her truth about the title is.

Natalie may indeed have put her personal feelings into that song - but using it as the overall album title would almost certainly have been a joint decision - and I think they would be well aware of the different currents of meaning people could find in it.

I love how SONY released a statement saying the album title, release date and first single haven’t been decided, yet they’ve already filmed a music video for it lol. Not everyone plays silly little games with their release dates like Taylor Swift. It’s nice that that the Dixie chicks don’t really give a shit about “Easter eggs” and the other lame ass money grabbing bull that a lot of artist do these days.

Im guessing that youre talking about how some artists reveal their release dates / track details through easter eggs? For me its a "to each their own" kinda deal. Tayor and the chicks do have a difference in their main demographics, Taylors being Teenagers/Pre-teens Who Respond well to that Interactive marketing approach opposed to Chicks fans who, at this point, dont neccessarily need to feel like they're best friends with the chicks and just want music. I guess its mostly an age thing, but it could also be a mainstream pop kinda thing. Whatever it is, its something that the chicks have passed long ago anyway. If they were to release fly today with a younger fanbase, i feel like they might have done something similar to taylor.

I haven't checked in on here for some time. Now that there's a new album due out, perhaps I'll do so more regularly, but it's still pretty quiet around here, sadly.

Feels kinda nice to have to go to the next page of comments to get to where I left off from the last time I was on here.
2020 doesn't work for me. I want the new album now!

I haven't heard Nat's podcast interview, but I read a Rolling Stone article that discussed it. I thought it was interesting that the Chicks were planning on releasing a cover album to complete their Sony contract. I definitely wouldn't mind a cover album, but I don't think I would have been nearly as excited with a cover album at this point, considering it's their first studio album in well over a decade. A full album of brand new DCX music is so much more satisfying.
Can't wait for the tracklist and album cover. I wonder if they will have their first collab. It would be kinda cool if Taylor was featured on it.

Gaslighter update please, DCX!! A teaser, promotional photo, something. Anything. The wait is awful, just awful! I've listened to the Gaslighter song teaser about 50 times. It's really grown on me. But it's no longer enough 😭
