Yes, a list of Deplorables if ever there was one. Like I've said, Trump didn't, still doesn't, and never will, give a damn about blue-collar and working-class people. Any illusions to the contrary should finally be dispelled in that article.

Just announced: Trump secured Nickleback for his inauguration (which I won't watch, anyway). He calls them a "great American band".
Well, the "great" part is a matter of extreme contention, to say the least. The "American" part isn't, for one simple reason:
They're from CANADA! Therefore, they are not American.
This is right up there with Reagan saying that "Born In The USA" affirmed his ideas about America (which they did not).

Apparently, the Nickelback announcement has been disputed, and may have originated from a fake tweet linkOn a similar topic, some media have asked (presumably satirically) if the Chicks would be prepared to appear Simon Renshaw gave this reply: "If anyone does do it, I hope that the check that they get is in the nine figures. Because it’s probably the last check they’re ever going to get…No one is prepared to normalize what is going on in the country right now.”linkWhile I agree with most of Simon's response, I do think there's a risk of comments like "the last check they're ever going to receive" feeding into the line being taken by some Fox News commentators that singers are being pressurized into refusing to appear, by threats of boycott from a phalanx of Hollywood insiders. While that is clearly a Fox cover story to mask the awkward reports of Trump's difficulty in attracting well-known artists - it will be believed by many of that channel's conspiracy-loving afficionados. This article takes the line that artists are right to refuse - but because of the blatant intolerance of much of the election campaign, not because of any peer or industry pressure. link

There is, of course, now the issue of congressman and civil rights maverick John Lewis questioning Trump's very legitimacy as president because of the Russian hacking scandal, and Trump firing back (as his narcissistic self will tend to do at even the most minor provocation). While I think Lewis' questioning of Trump's legitimacy has validity to it, he might have made even more of a sting if he had questioned Trump's legitimacy on the basis of racism, because basically Trump is a racist. And during a weekend where Lewis' good friend and real American hero Martin Luther King is celebrated by all decent folks, that is what should never be forgotten.

The newest statement: They're not ruling out getting rid of public education.
I doubt this could happen in four years, but what do I know. I feel like, at this point, I know nothing.

Rule of thought: Do not discount anything that the Trumpmeister might do. The it's-good-to-be-stupid anti-intellectuals are about to take over.
However, the protests, demonstrations, and pushbacks are also starting, so hang on, folks.

As a random observation, with more than a hint of "deja vu", I noticed this tweet yesterday:
"SHUT UP & SING! If we want a celebs opinion we will beat it out of them. Have you learned nothing from the Dixie Chicks? Do you know the audience that listens to country music? They are generally conservative and rightly so."
Blu Sanders, Miranda's chief stage hand (and friend, who sometimes sings with her on tour) replied to the tweet with:
"If you can make it through the crew"
The tweet seems to have been inspired by calls for a change of heart, and reasoned debate, over the guns issue. The boyfriend and the husband of two of the women on the tour have been especially vocal on that point - but it seems to be always the women who attract the most venom from a certain constituency. Miranda's recent post, a picture of herself by a mirror with "I do this thing called whatever I want", written in what seems like lipstick, probably didn't help matters in their eyes - and Blu is probably wise to keep the tour crew on alert. But although the culture war symbolism is still a card frequently played - I do think more has changed than that poster imagines since the Dixie Chick incident. The genre is more openly diverse, the network of friends is stronger, and defiance is admired by many of the fans. Several artists make their albums in East Nashville, or other centres away from Music Row, take care to cultivate Alternative Country links, and, at least for some, it's possible, with the right musical mix to keep a strong fan base, sales and tour levels without radio support.
A final point of irony was not lost on Twitter fans - the prime case of a "celeb" who seems incapable of shutting up might be the reality TV star President himself. Unfortunately many of his remarks and attitudes, both in the campaign and in his year in office, have increased the divisiveness in society, and (at least in the eyes of some) legitimized the threats bubbling under the surface.

Again, some concescutive Twitter posts, showing that neither the touring artists nor the fans are subscribing to the claim that the genre should think as one bloc in issues like this
Johnny Lavoy (tour artists' hair stylist, commenting on death threats) Again the people who are fighting to keep guns proving they are the ones who shouldn’t have them
Charlie Worsham (recording artist) thank you, Parkland students, for your courage & leadership. my mom is a teacher. every day i fear she could be the next victim of gun violence. i won’t be casting any vote for any candidate in any election who has taken so much as $.01 from the @nra @nracountry #neveragain
Unbreakable_Ran (fan) Stop bringing Mental Illness into this tapestry. The majority of those Mentally Challenged won’t touch a gun. Blame it on what it truly is #HATE #HATE #HATE #StudentsStandUp #KillTheNRA #BanAssaultWeapons #VoteThemOut
