FRENZY[/color] Alfred Hitchcock went back to England one last time for this rather bizarre 1972 psychological shocker of a necktie rapist practicing his trade in London. The rape scenes were heavily criticized by many, but the film, though less explicit nowadays, is still filled with plenty of the director's trademark suspense, and plenty of macabre black humor (one British bobby remarks to another: " We haven't had a good juicy series of sex murders since Christie. And they're so good for the tourist trade.")

On Saturday, I saw the new film by Michael Moore: Capitalism - A Love StoryI think the film is nicely made with a a revealing and at the same time disturbing message about one side of the issue at hand. Obviously, Michael Moore does not differentiate the topic very much, yet he presents some truly striking facts like the one on companies taking out insurance policies on their employees with themselves as the beneficiary in case of the employee's death?! I can easily understand why the family of the deceased person will be shocked once they learn what happened. Here is a link to the respective Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalism_A_Love_Story8.5 / 10 edited to add a picture:

Derrr, I forgot to post my rating for Paranormal Activity here, which I saw for the first time yesterday....
8.5/10
9/10
hmmm, I have allowed recollection to sink in more, and have in fact realized a lot more about the plot to this raw film, and am actually more intrigued than I was when first leaving the theatre.
I actually wish the movie did a few more things than it did, I admit, but I didn't make it, and hence my imperfect rating.
But I like this quote by well-known movie critic, Roger Ebert: "It illustrates one of my favorite points, that silence and waiting can be more entertaining than frantic fast-cutting and berserk f/x. For extended periods here, nothing at all is happening, and believe me, you won't be bored." I agree.

Quote by eaglemaster re. CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY:
I saw that film too this past Saturday. That part of employees having insurance policies taken out on them just made my skin crawl. In fact, much of what Moore presented, as is often the case with his films, is very disturbing; and if it is at all exaggerated (as no doubt many on the Right think it is), it isn't by much.
I don't know that I'd go as far as Moore does and say that the system of Capitalism is somehow intrinsically evil. But I will say that the ones who've taken advantage of it to hurt others and satisfy their own personal greed are evil.

In history class, there was this one kid talking to the teacher about how socialism would be better for the U.S. When he mentioned the movie, the teacher was all like, "Well, um, anyways.....back to the Constitution......" ;D

THE FOGJohn Carpenter's immediate follow-up to HALLOWEEN is this 1980 thriller about a small coastal town in Northern California terrorized by the ghosts of lepers whose ship smashed into the rocky shore one hundred years ago. The fog effects are spooky; the suspense factor is high. Thankfully, though, the blood and gore are minimized.

Got up reeeal early this mornng and this late-night movie was on.... Choke (2008) 8/10 A uniquely funny movie. A 'B-rate' movie you could say, despite its honorable "B" grading at yahoo. It's sort of a 'guy flick', but in a way, not. A rather silly-lookin' scrawny main character played by Sam Rockwell. (reminds me of a person I know) But authentically funny, in his delivery. The plot, in a sentence: A sex-addicted con artist whom has hilarious promiscuous encounters and childhood coming-of-age flashbacks while on his mission to financially support his ailing mother.... resting in a hospital where he has had sex with nearly every employed nurse. ;D A partial clip of one of the funniest scenes:

NIGHT GALLERYA trilogy of stories written by Rod Serling, this 1969 made-for-TV movie is a chilling mix of melodrama, morality, and the supernatural involving three situations: (1) a greedy nephew gets his comeuppance when his uncle returns from the grave; (2) a blind woman gets an eye transplant, but pays a hefty price for it; (3) a Nazi fugitive seeks solace in a South American art gallery, but doesn't get redemption. All three are quite good, but it is the middle one, with Joan Crawford, that gets the most attention, since it marked the professional directing debut for Steven Spielberg. NIGHT GALLERY, which subsequently ran for three years as a series, was also Serling's last big project, since he would pass away at age 50 in 1975 during open-heart surgery.
