Not to be confused with the ‘Favorite Movie’ thread. Rate with, or without, a picture. Comments are optional. U Turn 8.5/10 This is one ****ed up town. These are some crazy people. And the characters all play their parts so well. Sean Penn, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte, Billy Bob Thornton, Joaquin Phoenix, Claire Danes, Powers Boothe, Jon Voight.

La Haine
A French film from around 1995. It deals with 3 disaffected youths in Paris in the aftermath of a riot after one of their friends is beaten by the police. Well worth checking out.

Jennie and I saw "Julie and Julia" last night and loved it. Meryl Streep is amazing as Julia Child. Amy Adams keeps getting better every time I see her. One of my favorite male actors, Stanley Tucci, was in it as well.

THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3
Tony Scott's remake of the hugely memorable 1974 thriller involving the hijacking of a New York City subway is full of the things that have typified his filmmaking style (zip-panning; headache-inducing montage), and John Travolta (in the role done originally by Robert Shaw) overacts and shouts profanities endleslly. But the film benefits from Denzel Washington stepping into Walter Matthau's role with a certain ease.
On a scale of one to ten, I'll give this 7.5.

I am notorious for buying DVD's and not watching them, but I did buy the new Fast & Furious and watched it within a week. I thought it was better than Tokyo Drift, but not nearly as good as the original.
I may have to try to make a day out of watching all of them and rating them from that. I highly doubt that will happen though. As of right now, I give it a 7/10.

We saw My Sister's Keeper I read and LOVED the book but this movie seriously pissed me off. Because they decided to change the end of the movie and make it different from the book, I gave it a 5/10.

Reservoir Dogs- 8/10 I love Pulp Fiction and Quentin Tarantino movies in general. I had never seen this one and knew of the connections to the characters in Pulp Fiction. It was good. I never figured out who shot Nice Eddie though.

LAWMANVery solid and ambiguous psychological Western from 1971, involving a rigid marshal (Burt Lancaster) determined to bring in a group of cattlemen who got drunk in his town, shot the place up, and unwittingly killed an old man. Perhaps the best film made by British director Michael Winner (of DEATH WISH infamy), this also benefits from a fine performance by Robert Ryan as a pragmatic sheriff that Lancaster enlists to help him. On a scale from one to ten, I call this one a 9.5.

erik . .i remember the old tv series "Lawman' that was on in the late 50's or early sixties . . .i don't remember the main actor, but Peter brown played his deputy . . .i wonder if this movie was based on the same character?

Quote by peacenik:
Well, I've heard of that old TV series, but this LAWMAN is a bit different. This particular film is somewhat in the tradition of HIGH NOON, with a touch of ambiguity that had injected itself into the Western following THE WILD BUNCH.
