btw, what movies are they? 'Dancer In The Dark' and 'Tideland'. Jodelle Ferland absolutely blew me away in 'Tideland'. And Brendan Fletcher wasn‘t bad himself. This is a movie that’s disturbing to watch, but the acting of little Jodelle Ferland will not let you stop watching. I hope we see more of her in the future. You can see my reviews in this thread on page 8.

The Counterfeiters
An Austrian film. It won best Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year in 2008. Based on a true story of how the Nazis set up the biggest counterfeiting operation in history using slave labour (mainly Jews). It deals with the moral dilemma the Jews faced. They could either aid their enemy or try and save their own lives.
8/10.

HIGH PLAINS DRIFTERClint Eastwood's second film as a director, this almost Gothic-like western also marked his return to the genre that made him a household word. This film is a bit graphic in places in terms of violence, but that was par for the course for the Western after Leone and Peckinpah. 7.5/10

Alien s ('86)...9/10 Okay, I didn't just see the movie but had to put it up here. One of the few times in film history where a sequel truly succeeds its original.

Quote by b@@b re. HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER:
It's just such an unusual film of its type; it almost presages Stephen King's Gunslinger series. I just think some might find the sexual and physical violence in it a bit on the offensive side. Still, it is one of Eastwood's best, and among the best Westerns of the 1970s (IMHO).

The Whole Wide World 7/10 I'm a bio nut. I also love period piece movies.
Period piece. Check. Biography. Check. Renee Zellweger. Check.
Is there a better adult actress than Renee Zellweger?

Then you should see her (Zellweger) in her Beatrix Potter film "Ms. Potter". It also fits all three of your check lists.

CARRIEThis classic 1976 horror film from director Brian DePalma, based on Stephen King's first novel, foresaw in many ways the kind of school bullying that led to the horrors of Columbine and Virginia Tech. Sissy Spacek's performance as the put-upon title character with telekinetic powers may well be the best by any actress in a genre not known for great female performances. 9.5/10.

I just read about Miss Potter on the IMDB and I definitely think this one is up my alley. Thanks for the movie tip, drizz. My favorites with Renee are: Cinderella Man Cold Mountain Chicago The Whole Wide WorldI didn’t realize what a tragic person Robert Howard was (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) until I did some research this morning. Makes more sense now as to why he treated Novalyne Price (played by Renee Wellweger) so bad, and why I didn’t like him as a person in the movie. Regardless, that’s still no excuse for treating women the way he treated Novalyne.

1991... Point Break with: Patrick Swayze Keanu Reeves Lori Petty Gary Busey John C. McGinley and a bunch of dudes who look life far out surfers duuude!! and even... Anthony Keidis (of Red Hot Chili Peppers) Despite mediocre star ratings I give this flick a 8/10. It is a popcorn blockbuster actuion flick but a damn good one. It holds to all the formulas of a blockbuster cop action flick of the time but it took everything to another level honestly. Instead of one star hero you have a tandem of macho starpower in the film. Patrick and Keanu pad off well. jmho. And, yes, I watched it last night and just awwed at disbelief that Swayze is gone.

Harry Potter: 9/10. It was hard to hear the actors with their British accents, but it was a good mix of comedy, romance, and action.
I really want to see Julie and Julia. I sometimes watch clips of Julia Child and I want to see how similar it is in the movie.
