Linda's one of the greats. Her role as a central focal point in the foundation of the California Country Rock movement should not be underestimated. Key figures like Bernie Leadon, Chris Hillman and John David Souther met and developed musical influences and fusions within Linda's circle of friends. Emmylou Harris credits Linda's friendship with helping her through the bleakest time that followed Gram Parson's death at Joshua Tree. Those days played a huge role in saving Progressive Roots music from being swamped by the seductive commercial dominance of the Nashville Sound and the British Invasion.
Although there are several other Country Rock strands (Stillwater, Austin, Muscle Shoals, Athens) often leaning more to the "heavier" end of the Rock spectrum - we should not forget that those days in California played a major part in inspiring two of the most significant movements in Country Music - the "Hippy-Redneck fusion" that gave rise to the Outlaw movement; and Progressive Bluegrass.
Add to that the fact that Linda has shown a strong commitment to her principles and a kindly heart towards other artists, and it's clear that she deserves the respect and affection of both performers and fans.

It doesn't matter that she's "big", it doesn't matter why she's "big". It's about the music - past & present. Also, she's 62, does she have to look like the pin-up girl she was in the 70's? Nope.....

Hey, thanks for the photos from the 70's! Are you sure you're not a stalker? Linda Rondstadt's uncle owned a huge tract of land in middle Tennessee back in those days and he more or less gave out hunting permits so that he could keep a handle on how many hunters were using his property and the game wardens in the area helped him manage the property. I've killed 3 or 4 deer off his property when I was a teen He was a neat guy. He sold the property to Williamette and they clear cut the hardwood and planted pine trees. Is that your Dominecker driz?

He's a Barred Rock (Plymoth Rock variety). The hens are much darker. He's #2 Rooster, and was ousted @ 3.5 weeks for pecking the hens heads & eyes. So guess what hubby named him? So, he free ranges. I like him, he tries to follow me, but gets scared and likes to be around the coop/run. He comes running up the hill when I call him, but then "chickens" out and high tails it back to the coop. Hubby can't wait to get him in the crock pot - he pecks when he tries to collect him at night. I call him bachelor boy or rooroo.....

Was that enough info? He doesn't peck at me much, 'cause I hold him close and give him lovins'.

Here's Linda performing at the Inaugural Ball for Jimmy Carter in January 1977: And true to her non-conforming ways, while everyone else was dressed to the nines, Linda was in 501s. ;D

He's been losing competitions lately. He just may need another hit ...of that respiratory adrenaline. ...A water bong. Interestingly, the breathing techniques are somewhat identical. People need to lay off him.

Another iconic pic of Linda, this one from the beginning of her career: Linda, outside her Venice Beach house in January 1968, just as "Different Drum" had reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first hit.
