I was looking on this site to try and organise tickets to the Aus open and saw that the Dixie Chicks are on the rumoured to be touring page in Australia, I know it probably doesn't hold much water, but with the re-release and this I can't help but get a teeny bit excited. boxoffice.smh.com.au/smh/waitlist/ Events Waitlist

Yes ... but lurking at #20 ... is WOS! Have they re-released the whole Chicks catalogue, perchance?

I have adopted three kittens but that's more out of guilt than choice. Their Mom ran out in front of my car a month or so ago and she's no longer with us so now I feel that I have to look after them. No matter how hard I try though, I can't get near them. They come close enough to eat the food I give them every day but they won't let me rub them. I suppose they're just scared... Cats have a mind of their own. Unlike a dog, a cat will never do what her "master" expects from her. They are a symbol for creativity and are therefore adding value to any household just by their existence. You might recall Bob's signature " a home without a cat is a home without a soul". Even though that is a strong message, it holds quite some value in it. Xxys000, it could well be that the three kittens are really just scared which might something have to do with the fact that they lost their mother at an early stage and miss her now. I suggest that you give them time so that they can come closer to you or any human being on their own account, i.e. when they are ready for it. It is a very nice gesture from you that you actually started taking care of them. You seem to have a very strong feeling of responsibility for others and hopefully also for yourself... Yes, that's very good of you; I agree totally with Eagle Master - and so do the two furry purring creatures keeping me company And yes, do give them time. It can take quite a bit of patience, but kittens in particular are curious. If you can find the time to simply sit and read a book, watch TV etc a little way away, in sight of but not looking at them, the most curious will eventually come along to investigate the hand which feeds them. Kittens don't go in for stroking much, and are far more interested in getting to grips with you, in the same way they play with one another. So once they get to that stage, decide which hand to sacrifice as claw-control takes them a while to master! It doesn't hurt after a bit - honest ;D

There's three of them. Two of them are really shy and won't come within 5 feet of me even when I feed them...they'll only run over to the food when I go. One of them is less nervous and will come almost close enough to me but is still a bit scared. It's all about patience I suppose. But no way am I letting them scratch me . I don't care that much about being friends!!

And no, they cannot be clipped right back like finger-nails, partly because its far too difficult to climb trees with just hard pads, and partly because any neighbouring feline could rip them to bits. And grooming would also be problematic Fortunately kittens grow up faster than kids, and therefore learn much quicker than humans would how and when to use their claws, so its not like you'll be a pin cushion for years As their Mum you have to help with this: if they scratched her they'd get a sharp hiss and a motherly slap ... and she'd get respect!

Alikat, you might have to act very carefully if ever you should intend to approach Bob's house. Cats have this potential to "feel" you out prior to your entering the house. Given your uttered opinion about Bob's mental state, it might well be that his soul providing pets could feel inclined to climb up your trouser legs...
...come to think of it ...
...which could also mean that you might get some goose bumps at previously undefined body parts again...

However, Mr. Eagle, I’m getting somewhat concerned about how closely you seem to have been following some of my posts. You don’t want to end up on the same medication as me, do you?! Incidentally, going up to Bob’s house holds no fear for me. The only thing that might be of some concern is that I won’t be able to get anywhere near Bob’s mansion because of the electric gates, burglar alarms, security guards and gate houses that I’d have to overcome. I’m sure that he’s issued full details about me to all of the many minions that he employs at the ninety-bedroomed residence that he calls home. But, then again, I am a KAT (far superior to a mere cat! ), so this should not really be a problem…. The only thing that surprises me here is that it's taken you over a year and a half to realise this! Ho hum ;D I'm a slow learner.... ;D

The only thing that surprises me here is that it's taken you over a year and a half to realise this! Ho hum ;D I'm a slow learner.... Hey, come on! - give us a break! All these libellous remarks can get a bloke down after a while There is, besides, a perfectly simple solution, xxys000: I'm not a woman so can't wear skirts [ don't you dare, alikat!] but you can. Animals being friendly don't like touching human skin other than gently - they sense the difference and retract claws. Well, mostly; they can decide your bare feet resemble something they should practice catching, occasionally With kittens, a stout pair of jeans also works, as the material is just thick enough for the claws to cling to without penetrating deep enough to cause more than slight pin-pricks. But wean them of this before they put on weight ... Poppy isn't that keen on jumping down from tall fences, so we have an arrangement: she calls anxiously, I approach, turn around and bend slightly and voilà! - I have a cat on my shoulder, walk back into the house and kneel to let her hop off. No damage, so far And before you ask, yes, cats, like the Chicks' music, are addictive. So I wish you and your new family a long and happy life together Keep us informed of your progress PS: I had thought of forking some ^^^ back, but Taking The Long Way does seem relevant

hah, its 25 Skippy Road, Outback, Australia. If you have trouble finding it, its just past the billabong and make sure to stay away from the deadly snakes and spiders! tinyurl.com/6mrvpuI probably should warn you if you don't like huge spiders, don't click the link!

That ^^^ is seriously off-putting, scream-inducing, nightmare-inspiring and The Outback is henceforth off our list of Cute Places to Visit! Never mind that the golden orb doesn't often do that; it does it, and right next to the house --- EEEEK!!!

E&FM, I didn't realise we lived on the same road, we should get together and eat some vegemite sangas and tim tams and talk about the chicks.

Just the thought has me freaked out! My husband said he thinks the photo looks a bit distorted, I hope so. Even if its real they don't usually get so big they make the news, so hopefully this was a one off.
