I nearly fell off my chair when I read that "Dixie Chicks on country charts at No.7" was a top story on my homepage (ninemsn for all you Aussies on here)! For a millisecond I thought (or more like dreamed) that they had released a new album- and I'd completely missed it! lol But no, apparently they've re-released TTLW in Aus... has this happened anywhere else or are we just special? Although they're 7th on the list, the artists preceding them are all Aussie, and we're a bit protective of our own artists it's safe to say, so for the Chicks to get 7th with no promotion (to my knowledge at least) is pretty amazing! Here's the link if you want to see... like I said, it was featured on the main page of ninemsn news, Australia's biggest online news page, so it's apparently a "big story"! news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=642747

I'd like to know what the thought process is behind this. My first observation is that this is all down to Sony Australia rather than the Chicks or their management.

Apparently, Tony, it's all because they're arranging a hush hush tour before the end of the year that will involve JUST Australia. They wanted to keep it secret so as not to upset their myriad of fans in North American and Europe, but it seems that I've now let the cat out of the bag. Oops...

Oooh could this be them thinking of coming out of hibernation??! Im a little excited now! I thought the same thing....maybe this might be the first little step...although Tony could be right as well. I think if something like this happens in the US then maybe that might indicate that something is stirring...it's probably a bit too soon to start getting excited but it's hard not to!

I agree, Tony - decisions like that are almost certainly due to the local record company marketing execs. However - it still shows that there's an untapped sales potential there. Good to see Kasey Chambers there too. She's very popular internationally on the Alt. Country scene - and her song "Am I Not Pretty Enough" was a critique of the narrow mainstream radio playlists.

Is Kasey Chambers known outside Aus? That's news to me! I'm not a huge fan but I really didn't think she was popular internationally. The album that features on the top ten consists of duets with her new husband. The first single is on CMC all the time, it's quite good.

Yes, Kasey Chambers has gained recognition in the largest Country Music market - the USA. Her second (?) album, "Barricades and Brickwalls" peaked at number 13 in the US Country Album chart - which is very good going for a non-US artist. This suggested for a while that she might have had a major career in Mainstream Country - but her later work has gone very much into the Alternative sector. The Alt. Country market is the one I know best - and I'd say she's well admired there, and popular with UK Alt. Country fans too.

That's a good question...I suppose saying I don't like them was a bit harsh...it's more indifference than dislike. It may be because they don't really do anything. Although I have adopted three kittens but that's more out of guilt than choice. Their Mom ran out in front of my car a month or so ago and she's no longer with us so now I feel that I have to look after them. No matter how hard I try though, I can't get near them. They come close enough to eat the food I give them every day but they won't let me rub them. I suppose they're just scared...

They come close enough to eat the food I give them every day but they won't let me rub them. I suppose they're just scared... Cats have a mind of their own. Unlike a dog, a cat will never do what her "master" expects from her. They are a symbol for creativity and are therefore adding value to any household just by their existence. You might recall Bob's signature " a home without a cat is a home without a soul". Even though that is a strong message, it holds quite some value in it. Xxys000, it could well be that the three kittens are really just scared which might something have to do with the fact that they lost their mother at an early stage and miss her now. I suggest that you give them time so that they can come closer to you or any human being on their own account, i.e. when they are ready for it. It is a very nice gesture from you that you actually started taking care of them. You seem to have a very strong feeling of responsibility for others and hopefully also for yourself...

I was looking on this site to try and organise tickets to the Aus open and saw that the Dixie Chicks are on the rumoured to be touring page in Australia, I know it probably doesn't hold much water, but with the re-release and this I can't help but get a teeny bit excited. boxoffice.smh.com.au/smh/waitlist/
