"Accidental iconoclast" is pretty spot-on, given the 2003 incident's development into a legend. I think Natalie made a name for herself being a "wild child" from the get-go -- you rarely caught any other prominent country music star acting the way she would or saying the things she would say. 2003 was just the year she hit a wall doing it instead of gaining popularity from it.
