I was ticked off about it too. Particularly because when I first saw the headline on the front of the New York Times, it was right next to a picture of people returning to New Orleans. $1 billion to Georgia? Hey, how about we fix our levees in N.O. first!

I'm not sure that you understood my post, James. The part of Pepper's post that I quoted and commented on was clever and it gave me a big chuckle. No sarcasm from me. I did my friend. ;D

whenever i heard the word "slut" . . . i automatically picture and hear Dan Ackroyd and Jane Curtin on the old Sat. Night Live news set . . . . exchanging barbs and snittty comments back and forth . .

Since the cost of the war in Iraq hasn't diminished, one billion is about all W could afford. zfacts.com/p/447.html

since this administration in all liklihood cadjoled Georgia to crack down on the two "Russian Provinces" which wanted to separate themselves from Georgia and so precipitated the Russian protection that followed, i guess it was a guilty conscioence that spurred the billion dallar aid package . . . Peacie, you may have a conscience like the rest of us. OK, you do! But since when has there been any evidence of sufficient consciousness present in the White House to even consider the concept of feeling "guilty"? More like hush money, I reckon. No-one in the GOP wants more tales of unsavoury deals abroad to surface between now and November!

This country is so flipin stupid. It has a serious splurging problem, as well as half the people who live in it. In some aspects, we deserve the plight we get. I wouldn't fight China for one second. Not one.

edited to delete, uh stuff that might be taken the wrong way. Don't worry, I pondered that thought as well, and mean no offense, but I just find funny the way they sing that break to kick off the solos, with the Batman comic blast in Japanese. ;D

^^ especially so. Speaking of a "god telling us to" I enjoy a higher respect for Buddhism religion as it is (i.e. Mahayana Buddhism-the #1 religion of China), mostly since I understand it is much less abused to excuse superiority over others' lives, monopoly, and/or machinations of war. Yet, hence it is near abolished from China today by their Commie govt. Thus I would fight China (govt.) for the re-emergence of Buddhism only. ...Even though teachings may suggest not to. Actually, thanks james for the point, you gave me a new idea...

Yep. We're alot more capitalistic and materialistic than we realize. Why else would we have the defecit that we do and have the government to take over private companies to save the economy? Maybe socialism isn't so bad after all.

i like the stories about the holy Kobo Daishi (744-835) the Japanese Buddhist . . . and the pilgrims who begin their journey at his tomb . . and often find themselves accompanied by Daishi's presence on their walk . . .
and equaly impressed with the accounts from the Sufi mystics and from the Hassidim Jewish mystics about visits from the holy who have passed into the next life yet return to enlighten or guide or help seekers in the here and now . . .
the spiritual heritage of the faiths of the world (including the Hindu) is filed with such testimonies and accounts . . .
