One Billion in aid to GeorgiaSame article here. I don't know about you, but I'm not too happy about this. There are 47 million people in the US with no health insurance. Poor and middle class people are struggling. And we're giving a Billion dollars to the country of Georgia. I'd like to see this country start taking care of its own for a change. Am I acting greedy? Is it wrong for me to think this way? Your thoughts?

One billion would certainly feed a few starving faces, IN THIS COUNTRY, the...few that the GOP apparently thinks there is.

No, you're not sounding selfish. WHY are we giving $1bil to Georgia......when we have to borrow it from China & Japan. Why don't we let China & Japan decide if they want to give Georgia $1bil. It's ridiculous that we give any aid if we DON'T have the money. Borrowing to keep our own afloat is understandable. But, we don't borrow to ARM others.

You are not sounding selfish at all. And trust me, I am all about helping those less fortunate. Especially those in Africa but that is a whole other post. As a nation you need to take care of your own first. That isn't happening. You have every right to be upset with that when people in New Orleans are still living in FEMA trailers......

since this administration in all liklihood cadjoled Georgia to crack down on the two "Russian Provinces" which wanted to separate themselves from Georgia and so precipitated the Russian protection that followed, i guess it was a guilty conscioence that spurred the billion dallar aid package . . .

That is spot on. When Georgia broke away from the USSR,those two areas wanted to stay in Russia. They had independence movements and were ran most of their own affairs. Then this puppet who is run by the US and Israel comes along and leases a deadly attack which kills thousands od people. Russia was not going to stand back. I am not a fan of Russia either, but its obvious that Geogia's puppet was told what to do and he thought the US would come to his rescue. What would happen if Canada wanted links with Russia and allowed the Russians to put military stuff there, what would the USA do. Now why can Kosovo get recognised by the west but these two places not.

Yea, we should be denouncing Russia for this "illegitimate" invasion upon a country they had no business invading to begin with.
Because you know, we would never do that.

there's always a double standard in international affairs : when "WE" do it, it's the best thing to ever happen . . . when THEY do it, they are violating international respect . . . truth is though . . there is a difference: Russia was protecting real Russians from Georgian aggression . . . maybe like the U.S protecting Texans against Santa Ana?

All you guys are spot on. Its a damn shame that our country is practically going bankrupt and in trillions of dollars of debt, yet somehow we can afford to give this kind of money to Georiga for being stupid and starting a campaign it couldn't finish. I think this will all become crystal clear to Americans when we have to learn to speak Chinese.

I'm not sure that you understood my post, James. The part of Pepper's post that I quoted and commented on was clever and it gave me a big chuckle. No sarcasm from me.
