Jerry Reed Hubbard (usually known as Jerry Reed) has passed away after suffering emphysemia for a number of years, in which he turned from music to charity work.
Known also as an actor and comedian, composer and chart singer - he is best remembered for his innovative guitar work, which has had a considerable influence on contemporary styles. As well as solo work, he was in much demand as a session player, admired by Elvis Presley and Chet Atkins.
Here is probably his best-known song, "Guitar Man"

Very sad. He was quite the comedian too. This acting credits include Smokey and the Bandit and the opposing coach (opposite Henry Winkler) in Waterboy.

Members on this side of the Atlantic especially might like to see this jam of Jerry with (among others) Tom Jones
