Barack Obama has announced that Delaware Senator Joe Biden will share the Democratic nomination.
Mr. Biden is regarded as a very experienced Senate veteran with a strong grasp of foreign policy issues. (Ironically, he criticised Obama for lack of experience during the Primaries).
In terms of electoral appeal, Sen. Biden may resonate with the Blue-Collar workers, regarded as a difficult constituency for Sen. Obama
However, this may not be a choice which overcomes other difficulties that the Democrats may face in November. There is lingering resentment among some Hillary Rodham Clinton supporters that Obama did little to counter a misogynistic tone introduced by some of the press during the Primary campaign. This appointment may do little to assuage that. Also, historically, the Democrats find it difficult to win without a Southerner, and also difficult to win with a Senator, rather than a candidate with experience as a Governor.

I'm not surprised he picked Biden, that seems to be who everyone was assuming he was going to pick.
Biden's a good choice, but I still wish he would have chosen Clinton. Hey, maybe McCain will?, lol

I remember in an old thread about runnig mates, I was the only one who wanted him to pick Biden. Not that I am bragging about being right or anything.... But I recently see that some or many discredited Joe Biden as an option in a liot of ways, whereas i have felt that I have enjoyed hearing his takes on issues in the last few years. Me, I am all about character in a politician. Any one of them can be crooked, as a solo or a group. so I will just go with a gut feeling on many of them. Joe Biden seems a real level-headed and strict cat. I have listened to him be guest on Bill Maher's show and to roaring applauses. Even if you may say that gets staged. But I think this will be allllright. But...somehow.....I think McCain is gonna pull this off anyway and we get another four years of redundancy. Blehh blahh boo hiss!!!

Hey, maybe McCain will?, lol clinton would never have worked I need some clarification.... do you mean, Clinton and Obama wouldn't have gotten elected together, or that Clinton would not have worked for the American people??? Hopefully you're meaning the first b/c out of all of the candidates, Clinton was BY FAR the hardest working among them.

Biden is a good choice. I was hoping for Richardson, but like I said earlier, he's a bit goofy.
McCain certainly isn't any more ready than Obama. McCain is serious trouble. I just hope that Americans get their heads out of their arses. Though I'm fearful. You should hear the racist things hubby hears at work, in regards to his Obama bumper stickers. It's horrendous, and this is NorCal, it's not Alabama or Idaho (no offense).

You should hear the racist things hubby hears at work, in regards to his Obama bumper stickers. Traveling through small town Tennessee on the way to Clarksville back in June, I was more nervous because of the Obama bumper sticker on the truck I was riding in than I was the small bag of weed in the truck. Seriously! And about Joe Biden; I approve. I liked him during the debates.

Eh, I'm neither thrilled nor displeased with his choice. Biden seems ok. Nothing truly spectacular about him, but nothing damning either. I thought he would've picked Edwards before the scandal to get the Southern vote, then I thought Clinton in order to regain that voting bloc. Here's some fast facts:
-He is a longtime member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he voted against confirmation of Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and John Roberts
-He wrote the Violence Against Women Act, which federalized domestic violence as a crime.
-He was a proponent of the 2005 charges to bankruptcy law which made filing bankruptcy much more difficult.
-He voted for the PATRIOT Act in 2001, then argued against renewing it in 2005, before voting for legislation that generally renewed the PATRIOT Act's powers in 2006.
-He was an enthusiastic supporter of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and sharply criticized other Democrats who were less supportive or opposed. More recently he has called for "decentralizing" Iraq, a plan that he says would give of its major ethnic groups semi-autonomy, and called for more of a US military presence there.

Friends, there have been worse choices made by presidential candidates for their running mate in the past. Remember that one of the few mistakes that Eisenhower ever made, but one that turned out to be more than a little damaging for America in the long run, was his VP choice. Does the name Richard Nixon ring a bell?

i wonder if Biden would consider it a good idea to "decentralize" the U.S.A.

I do know that the county I work in, not the one I live in, is red neck to the hill [southern slang] and I hear enough BS there. But these are the same people who think Natalie is a traitor and that Bowie is still Ziggy Stardust.

Biden is a good choice. I'm supporting Barack Obama for President. So if he choose Clinton, I still would be supporting the ticket.
I do like the pitbull aspect of Biden.

just like to add to many idiots supported clinton, she lost get over it. I'm not sure why you think this. For one thing, Clinton and Obama's opinions on nearly all issues are extremely similar if not identical. In choosing between the two, that just leaves who you think would do a better job and who's more qualified. I personally chose Clinton b/c I thought she was better in both categories. So did 50% of the democratic voting block. You seriously have issues if you think the people who voted for Clinton are "idiots" just because we supported her. Perhaps you're simply one of the democrats who voted for Obama over Clinton b/c he's a man.

I think he was NUTS not to have picked Hillary, Democrats had a way better chance of winning this race with her. She was the one who was ahead in the polls as far as beating McCain. I am not an idiot and neither are the other 18 million who would have loved to see them together.

But embittered as some Hilary supporters are, that's still a huge voting bloc Barack doesn't have. For many, a Obama Clinton ticket would've been perfect. I still didn't like either of the two, but at least the dems would have a better chance of winning if they both were on board.
