Whispering Bob Harris played TYT on Radio 2 last night and announced afterwards that this week is the 10-year anniversary of the song reaching number 1 in the American country music charts...and they said that when Nat joined that they'd never last . Well done to the ladies for their longevity in their current format. Long may they continue making music together
I did a bit of investigation and discovered that the album WOS was released on 27 Jan 1998, but didn't enter the UK album charts until 3 July 1999 - nearly 18 months later! Presumably this was because they didn't come to the UK until 1999 (?) and were practically unknown until they came here. TYT also only entered the UK singles charts on 3 July 1999.
Fly, on the other hand, was released on 31 Aug 1999 and went into the UK charts almost immediately on 11 Sep 1999.
Then again, Home was released on 27 Aug 2002, but only made the UK charts on 22 Mar 2003. Does anyone have any idea why this might have been the case? Might it have had a later release date for some reason because they didn't have a label when they were making it???
Incidentally, this is the first time that I've heard the Chicks on the radio for about a couple of months in the UK. The Brits will, of course, be holding a party to celebrate this, but it has been agreed that we'll wait for Tony get back from his hols as he's currently sunning himself with a Reebok sponsored knotted hankie on his head. BTW, thanks to Bob, who has kindly agreed to hold the celebration at his gaff!
