Salutations for a couple of weeks laydeez and gennalmen.......................
Off to Portugal for a bit of sun, sea, sand and oooh la la..................
I'll pop back in when I find a suitable internet cafe that pours a nice cold beer!
Oh, and before a certain person 'pulls me up' on the oooh la la thing............................I'm still checking my Portuguese phrasebook!

I don't need a certified (or even certifiable) translator to know what oooh la la means in your mother tongue, Tony I just wonder how you can be so brazen about it - unless you're off for a lads' holiday without your better half, of course ;D Whatever, I hope your departure will signal an end to the unseasonable gales and rain, and see Summer sunshine resuming business as normal, both for your sake and ours have a great time ...

Anyway, obrigado for letting us know and have uma cerveja on me, old bean. Unlike you huge-earning taxi drivers , I can only afford to go the the Isle of Wight for 4 nights next week! I'm sure that you'll get much better weather than me, so ENJOY! Portugal, eh? Had you been in Zambujeira do Mar, Portugal on the 7th you could have attended a great concert. Hey Hey I'm back, and missed all you people!! Sadly for TWC, I missed dearest Bjork in concert, and yes Paul, of course we all know whom I had in mind regarding my phrasebook, which incidentally I didn't purchase, and obviously I did have a few beers for you, and everyone else of course. Bob I did drag along the long suffering and the 'chilblanes' too, how they puy up with me for two weeks non stop leaves me slightly perplexed, but hey ho!! It was a great break, and if any body wants to go to Portugal I would definately recomend it. I've been twice now and both times it was lovely!!

Where exactly did you go? I've also been to Portugal a few times and I can certainly recommend one or two places too, especially Vilamoura (unless it's changed since we were last there about 20 years ago - pre-kids and when we had a life ). Welcome back Tony... I'm sure you've heard the big news....we were all pleasantly surprised to hear about it here on CRCR... Bob was the first to break the news Nancy has replaced Nat as lead singer of the chicks!!! ;D ;D Great stuff, Helen. In fact, this news is SO top secret, I'm pretty certain that it's not yet known outside of the ladies themselves, their management team and CRCR. I say this because I've been checking on google for the last few days and there's still nothing there...

Welcome home to lovely Britain If you weren't blown, rained or flooded into desperation, you could well be unique among Brit holidaymakers I know this summer! And don't believe any of the rumours being spread around here. I'll be suing shortly

Well Paul, bizarrely we went to Praia Da Luz, and knowing about the sad stuff about Madeleine it's been strange knowing that this was where we were going and obviously there were raised eyebrows at our choice of destination. A friend of my father in law owns the villa and having seen info on his place we had been wanting to go back to Portugal for 2/3 years now.His villa is so nice that this is the reason why we went to Luz. We were not disappointed in the slightest with Luz. It's 45 mins west of Vilamoura. I found this part of the Algarve beautiful in places. Fine beaches and unspoilt fishing villages. Luz is fairly small, I'd say about 25% the size of Vilamoura, with small streets and lanes winding down to a lovely beach. Just a handful of bars and restaurants, but almost every restaurant serving very good quality food, we didn't have one bad meal in the fortnight. There were only 3 bars in the town which showed all the sports chaneels, which is ok cos you can still see what you wish, but it's not like you are clobbered with it everywhere you go like some holiday resorts. It was very clean there, and is definately a place where they cater for families and well behaved couples. If you wanna go clubbing, Luz isn't the place, there are only 3 nightclubs there. The beaches in the area are as good as any Ive been to around the med, or anywhere in the world come to think of it. Better than Barbados where I've been a couple of times. There wasn't much visible in the way of Madeleine, I suppose that's all been dealt with. Walking the sleepy lanes and streets of Luz it's hard to believe that this awful crime took place. Overall, this was definately one of my favourite holidays ever. The only downer on this break was the cost. With the euro so strong against the pound it was expensive. We spent as much money on this holiday as we did when we went to Florida last year, but that's not the end of the world is it?
Drizz, I doubt I'll get any pics up, I'm sort of rubbish when it comes to techno stuff as a few people on here already know!! But you never know...................... Bob, have you got yourself a lawyer yet??

Thanks for the write-up, Tony. Glad you had a good time there, and good to have a first-hand, non-journalist account of the place. Sounds attractive as a possible future holiday spot for the wife and I (Euro rates aside!), as we're definitely well-behaved :-)
