For anyone interested, BBC Radio 2's website has a section on this year's festival, including photos and also links to performances by the likes of Judy Collins, Joan Armatrading, Martha Wainwright, Richard Hawley among others: Cambridge Folk Festival

k d lang, Tim O'Brien and Allen Toussaint are featured in the photo gallery (but not the video section)
One of my favourites, Elizabeth Cook, appeared on two days (but you need to click on "see the full line up" to find her name)
Luckily, the BBC presenters are more tuned to her than the site editor seems to be! Bob Harris has recorded a studio session with her, and Charlie Brown makes her his recommended pick: "You should ensure you take a look at Elizabeth Cook, accompanied by her husband Tim Carroll (ex The Blue Chieftians). They even include a 'Hillbilly Dancing' segment in their set. Elizabeth's recent album 'Balls' was produced by Rodney Crowell and made the Americana Top 10 album charts. She is a Opry regular and is a star in the making - GUARANTEED!"

Ha, ha - I thought this was cool!
When Elizabeth Cook said she'd worn "Daisy Dukes" at Cambridge, I said that we wanted to see pictures.
I thought that would probably be the end of it - but she has now taken the time to give fans a link to what she calls "some footage on Youtube of the "daisy dukes over black tights" look EC sported at Cambridge Folk Festival, yo"
Here she is singing "Times Are Tough In Rock 'n' Roll" (without the Jaw Harp used on the record), accompanied by her husband, Tim Carrol

Devon Sproule was also featured in the BBC Festival excerpts.
For those who don't know her, here she is performing at Lewes (the capital of East Sussex, not far from where I live.)
Lewes has an interesting history- it had an important role in the gradual development of Parliamentary democracy, when Simon de Montfort defeated a Royal army twice as large here in 1264. Centuries later, Tom Paine, who wrote the Rights of Man worked as a Revenue Officer here, and his house can still be seen. In the American War of Independence, Brighton people marched to the house in support of the American colonists, and more than 200 years later marched again to protest about Guantanamo Bay. Unfortunately, the town also has had a history of religious bigotry, which is still somewhat controversial today, when the Firework Night celebrations take place.

Unfortunately, [Lewes] also has had a history of religious bigotry, which is still somewhat controversial today, when the Firework Night celebrations take place. No doubt some people will always take things way too seriously Still, I think it should be remembered that the Roman Catholic Queen "Bloody" Mary burned a number of well-known Protestants there! (She did so in other places, too, but these were the best known in the mid-1500s). It ought to be a reminder of what religious zealotry can lead to, much like events held to recall the holocaust in more recent times. The bigots at the annual Lewes bonfires are massively outweighed by the hundreds of townsfolk who organise parades and bonfires, and the thousands who pour into the town to enjoy the spectacle, most of whom haven't the foggiest idea why Lewes is the Bonfire capital of England but like nice big fires, funny costumes, and a huge firework display! BTW: Lewes may be the E Sussex county capital, but has far less inhabitants than even Seaford, which only recently got its Town Council back. Damned bureaucrats - burn the lot, I say!

Yes, Bob, I meant the "history of bigotry" to include the Tudor persecutions as well. As for today's celebrations, it's one bonfire society - Cliffe - that can't seem to shake off the charge. (Seaford certainly should have had its town council years ago. As a Limb of the Cinq Ports, it should really outrank Brighton, Worthing and Eastbourne!)
