I went and saw Susan Gibson(she wrote Wide Open Spaces) and Bruce play last night at Shady Grove in Austin. Bruce's kids were running around eating french fries - super cute kids, talk about some red hair. As for the show it was fantastic, Susan Gibson can really write and sing a song! I bought her new album "New Dog Old Tricks" and i'm digging it. She was super nice, laid back...really easy to be around. She has a chick foot tattoo on her hand like the ones the Chicks have on their feet. She and Bruce put on a really great show! If you feel like it check out this tune I found that she sings with Mike McClure; it's called "Wicked Game of Hearts" I found it on ITUNES. and also you can hear it here, i think.... www.myspace.com/mikemcclure

I would have loved to see that show. Austin is such a great town. I almost moved there in '02. I went to the Chicks show at the Texas State Fair in Dallas and then drove to Austin for three days to check it out.

Thanks for this post - Mike McClure is a very interesting musician.
He was formerly with "Great Divide" - who were an important Red Dirt band (now disbanded, though he had already left before their ending). He founded a new Mike McClure Band - and I'm not sure of their current status. Their web domain seems to have been "hi-jacked" by an advertising portal, leaving only the sparse MySpace page that you linked to - which seems to imply he's not currently with a band.
That seems a shame - his solo record from which the track you picked comes sounds very good. It's called "Twelve Pieces", and is worth sampling for anyone who likes hard-edged modern Country. The tracks range from Red Dirt Rock to a moving Gospel closer. There are two duets with Susan Gibson (Harder to Ignore is the other one), and Cody Canada of Cross Canadian Ragweed also puts in an appearence.

I wish I could pop into a concert like that. The live music scene around here leaves a lot to be desired. Any good songs from Bruce's upcoming album?

Wide Open Spaces remains in my top 5 of favorite Chicks music. What lyrics, so evocative. I can imagine she'd be fantastic in other writing and in performance!

I wish the chicks had recorded the song (WIDE OPEN SPACES) in its entirity, but it probably would never have made it to radio (too long). There's actually another verse that's missing from the Chicks version.
