I knew there was a reason I never officially unsubscribed from this email list. I just got an email from XTU (the Philadelphia Country Station) asking me to fill out a survey on the Chicks. There are 3 questions, and room for comments. You have to register with the site, but it is worth it for the opportunity to give them your opinion. Let's show'em where chicks fans are coming from! Email is cut and pasted below: As always, we at 92.5 XTU value your opinions and would like to ask you two quick questions regarding the Dixie Chicks. Please CLICK HERE to answer this brief survey, and earn a quick 10,000 points. 925xtu.listenernetwork.com/DoSurvey.asp?SurveyScheduleID=17168Thank you!!!

I was just thinking... 1 of the questions is "If the Dixie Chicks perform in Philadelphia, would you buy tickets to see them?"....
"If" ? Philly was a regular tour stop for Fly and TOTW... does this mean their tour schedule is not set yet? Do country stations have a say whether or not a group comes to their city? I wonder...

I just took this survey. There were only two questions when I took it: (1) Will you buy the new album, and (2) If they tour in Philly will you go see them. I was aghast at the thought that the Chicks might not come to Philly. I did add in the comments that I have already pre-ordered the album, that I am just waiting for tickets to go on sale, and when will WXTU start playing NRTMN and Everybody Knows.
I think it would be pretty sad if tour stops are based on whether or not the local radio station thinks its listeners want to see that artist. I don't recall WXTU ever doing a listener survey quite like that one. I'm also wondering why they didn't ask if we wanted to hear songs from the new album on the radio.
Unfortunately for me my XM Radio receiver was stolen out of my car three weeks ago. XM was very nice and gave me a steep discount on an upgraded model but it still hasn't come in yet. That leaves me stuck with WXTU. Lucky me. If I hear one more redneck song I think I am going to drive off a bridge.

Oh, I think I put "3" counting the area for comments...those were the questions when I did it too. I have NEVER seen a survey like that from them either.... maybe, on the bright side, they're using it as "proof" that listeners DO want to hear the chicks. I just hope people fill it out... I am from Philly originally.

Here's hoping. I think Philadelphia just really needs a second country music station. I know that there are other stations but they don't have the signal strength to reach a significant market area like WXTU does.
And if WXTU actually tries to prevent a Philadelphia Dixie Chicks tour stop I don't know what to think! But more likely they are just testing the waters to see if they want to promote the tour. Frankly I don't think the Chicks need WXTU. I think they will sell out every date they schedule in Philadelphia regardless.

None of the American tour dates have been published yet. Some of them are expected very soon - but I think other venues are still negotiating, or hopeful, and I think some dates will be added after the first announcement.
I agree that Philadelphia is highly likely (but I can see that people would have to say "if", when there has not yet been any announcement).
I don't see that the radio station management would have any involvement or influence in the tour itinerary. (Even when a radio conglomerate are involved as a tour sponsor - as Clear Channel were last time - the radio stations and the tour operated quite separately)
The venue promoters are very keen to attract a big-impact touring group. Tour tickets are bought by individual fans, who make their own choices about which concerts they see. Hence venue promoters are not vulnerable to the same commercial threats as radio stations (which always fear angry callers threatening to switch to another channel and reduce the station's advertising ratings). I'm afraid this makes commercial radio a very cautious and play-safe market - but venue promoters know a mass fan base when they see one!

Frankly I don't think the Chicks need WXTU. I think they will sell out every date they schedule in Philadelphia regardless. I couldn't agree with you more about the second radio station idea. Mr. Beasley is a nice man, but his programmers are a bunch of A-holes. During the Top of the World Tour, after the "incident" the Dixie Chicks were banned from WXTU and a letter from Mr. Beasley was listed on the website's homepage stating that "at this time, the Chicks are not welcomed on our station due to the overwhelming receipt of negativity." He backs down to the listeners and doesn't take a stand AT all. What really gets me is that WXTU was given tickets to the TOTW tour in Philly and EVERY DJ I know (I used to work for them) said they weren't going. When I went to both shows, I saw five of the DJ's there, in the FRONT ROW. So much for hating them! I have a deal with one of the DJ's as we're still close friends that I'll be getting at least one pair. The radio station can't stop the girls from playing in Philly. It has to do with the promoters and which venues are open at what times, prices, etc. The Chicks are definitely coming to both Philly (might be the Spectrum this time around and not the Wa-choke-ia Center) and NYC (most likely MSG's theater). This will be and end stage set-up, not a lot of hooplah and tricks, but more about the music. Very simple setting/set-up so no Chicken Coop. I believe they'll be playing Philly in either July or August - just hope it's not when I'm vacation. That would stink! And don't try bothering to hear "Not Ready to Make Nice" on that station. They won't play it. Such drama! Yet, they'll play the same drowned out Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith crap. Everytime someone from my office has called to hear it, they say "nope" and hang up the phone on them. Told you, the station is a bunch of jerks. Oh, and just for those who listen to it - if you remember Cadillac Jack - he got fired. Thank goodness!
