Even if there was a link, I prefer Miranda in a "contest" on these two particular songs ... sorry!

Miranda shares the same manager with the Chicks (Simon Renshaw). She has spoken favourably about them a number of times. She has regarded the Chicks' music as an inspiration.
Jack Ingram is from the same Texas Music background - but he's now gaining recognition as a mainstream singer. He shares Taylor Swift's label promotion. Jack has also spoken in favour of the Chicks - but he has recently expressed a personal opinion (when asked) that he wishes they'd steer clear of controversy. Some may wish he hadn't said that bit, others may agree - but he is popular with quite a few Chicks' fans.
"Love You Better" is probably one of the songs the Chicks "have done with", and are unlikely to perform again. But it was the "breakout" single - and as such, the first Chicks' song most fans probably heard. That gives it a special place in fan lore

Since we're on this - separate thread somewhere - has Miranda also suffered from lousy publicity and PR? As far as I can tell, her website and MySpace are kept reasonably up to date with news and info, even an apology for having caught flu and cancelling dates. Or is it more a case of Renshaw managing Miranda etc and the Chicks managing Renshaw?

Delicate ground!
(It's part of management's role to take the flack - in a sense, being a scapegoat for fan concerns goes with the territory!)
The Chicks rather unsentimentally ended their relationship with the earlier manager who steered them to Nashville and the major contract. As with Laura and Tommy - parting company was difficult for him. That was their decision, and is long past - I'm not mentioning it as a criticism, merely to show they do it when they feel they need to. The point is, they seem pleased with Renshaw, and stayed with him when he went independent. There seems no sign that they want different management now.
I think both SUAS, and Simon's discussion with a trade paper in 2006 over comments that he was neglecting the Country sector, show that the Chicks do over-rule Simon in matters of tactics and promotion strategy.

Yup Managers only take the blame, of course, when there are brickbats in the air. It may or may not be their fault - we just don't know, and fans will always tend to blame a faceless manager rather than the artists when things go wrong. It'll be interesting to see how far Renshaw manages to take Miranda. At least he now has a wealth of experience in the pitfalls of the "country" scene.
