We all knew they were going to get shut out and the country industry made it a reality Wednesday when the Chicks were nominated for 0 awards but all the usual suspects were nominated. Rascall Flatts entertainer of the year??? What a joke! The CMAs and ACMs have lost all credibility.....

The CMAs and ACMs have lost all credibility..... I'm afraid, for some of us, they lost that a long time ago. (When considering the Pop-Country mainstream, many Roots fans are inclined to think along the lines of Shooter Jennings' current album - but as some might find the title crude, I won't post it here.) As always, with music, tastes will vary, and 'each to their own' is probably the most friendly compromise! In the case of the Chicks - I honestly don't think they want to be there at present.

And I think they don't care if they have not been nominated for any CMA or ACM awards. They left the Country music scene.

I pretty much laugh when I turn on CMT and GAC. The videos and the music, are pretty bad. Now, I like some goofy country music - and to each their own taste right? But, there comes a point - maybe when say, 80% of country music on the radio & tv are crap that you just want to completely run away from the genre. I don't blame Natalie at all anymore. I used to think, why not send your records to country stations. Now I think I completely understand.

It's over for The Chicks in Country. Thats the bottom line. The CMA just did them a big favor.
They are every persons band now not just the property of Country.

I think the Grammy Academy should divorce themselves from Country. No longer carry the category. Country has it's own Academy and they obviously care more about Nashville, politics, and money then they do music and art.

What is it about The Chicks aren't country anymore they no longer get? Don't worry, Steve - the Chicks are never going to come asking you what music they ought to make They're Country all right - however much that may grate on some people's politically correct nerves. Maybe it's the ACM you should be asking what they think their name means LOL

We got 5 Grammy's baby. Wait. Make that 15 Grammys baby! We don't need no stinkin ACM award. ;D (who's 'we'?! lol) Let's face it. Having a ACM or CMA award isn't all that impressive when you're in the company of Rascal Flats who, imho, couldn't sing their way out of a paper bag.

No kidding I think The Chicks have a perfect opportunity ahead of them to put out one monster Pop-Rock album next time out. A huge seller. I mean look at country. They had to fight for the right to play their instruments on their first album. Goes to show you how much Nashville really respected their musicianship. (Until the cash started rolling in).

Never mind, Steve - dream on! (When the next album comes out you can always call it "Roots Rock" - that's the approved term, especially for those good folk who have a paroxysm saying the "C" word) LOL

Right on, Evets. I think the 'opportunity fairy' is smiling on the Chicks right now saying "come and get it ladies." I check out their airplay on yes.com every day and yesterday and this morning I swear I had to wait 3-4 seconds for the airplay to finish loading. As a comparison, I typed in Beyonce's name and the load time was pretty much the same (I, know. SHOCKER!) The big difference was that Beyonce's airplay was all for one song, Irreplaceable. The Chicks' airplay was for lots of different songs. XM has been great with airplay too -- mostly country but Flight 26 has been stepping it up. In fact, today they played something titled " Dixie Chicks Grammy 2007" immediately after playing NRTMN. I don't know what that was, but it sounds good! ;D yes.com/artist/Dixie%20Chicks

I find it depressing and sad. But on the other hand I don't care anymore about award shows. It shows more political sides than talents. However I am am proud to say I belong to a fan base than supports the 15 time Grammy Award trio the Dixie Chicks. Who needs ACM's or any other award show when the mother of all gives the night and year to my favorite group and entertainers. THE DIXIE CHICKS!!! I will not be giving any support to the ACM's this year! Let their ratings fall.

Just remember a few facts about the ACMs - they take place in Las Vegas (that bastion of mom and pop small town values), they are a Dick Clark production, and this is the same awards show where last year Reba had herself a great big laugh at the Chicks expense - much to the delight of the ACM audience. The slam was written by the academy and delivered with gusto. Plus who could forget Honky Tonk Bedonkydonk with the Vegas showgirls! The people who run the academy were NEVER going to nominate the Chicks and if the membership had, the ladies would have not been welcomed at the party.
I have to screen the show for work but I'd rather watch SUAS again.

Bingo,
You are correct in that the Dixie Chicks are still country. They don't need to appear at the ACM's to play country music. With Rascal FATS in there it looks more like pop music to me.

Bout the only thing the Chicks can say now is . . .
we are glad it's over, we won't miss country one bit, we are not looking back, we're moving forward, and we are excited and inspired about our new role in modern contemporary mainstream music.

Face it Steve, your obsession with "Country" is never going to have the floor to itself. You're entitled to your opinion - but that's all it is. It's likely to be answered each and every time you trot it out! --It's not over. --The Chicks are not going to miss Country Music, because they are not going to stop playing it. --They'll continue to look wherever they like, without asking for your approval. --It really isn't logically sustainable to imply that someone can't move "forward" unless she stops playing a form of music that you happen to dislike. "Moving forward" is not the monopoly of any particular musical form. --The Chicks are far too good, far too inventive, and far too dedicated to settle for being restricted to "modern contemporary mainstream music." Here are a couple of quotes (from last year's publicity interviews) which suggest that the Chicks are quite happy to go on producing Country Music: "I am a country fan....That's what's in my blood. It's always going to make its way into our music." Emily, talking to ABC News"We know who we are and what we do. We have banjo and fiddle...Our goal is not to be up for best pop album ... And ultimately I don't think we care what category we're in. We still think that we are a country band." Natalie, talking to the Dallas Morning NewsThe Chicks may have turned their backs on mainstream Pop-Country radio (and good riddance). But they certainly haven't turned their backs on Country Music!

I think the Chicks should continue making whatever kind of music they feel like making because it always turns out to be great! They have great instincts. If people want to call them country, fine. If they want to say the Chicks aren't country anymore, that's fine too. Because in way they aren't. While their music may be still have a country sound (it's alot less country than it was and some songs are barely country) they are not part of the country music "scene" and are not embraced by the country music industry.
If the country industry ever decides to pull their heads out of their asses and embrace the Chicks again, that's great. A great band can never have too many fans. I won't be holding my breath.
Either way, the Chicks are simply the Chicks and they no longer "belong" to country music. They belong to everyone now. And Thank God for that.

I think the Chicks are through with the country music establishment and not so much the genre. They'll probably go the Mary Chapman Carpenter, Steve Earle, Roseanne Cash route at least in terms of how they will present themselves.

I dont think anyone of us have the idea what genre their next album will be.I suspect some of our friends here wants the music they like to be the genre in wich the Chicks gonna do their new CD. I personally think they will go rock-pop-country with a unique Dixie Chicks touch-based on their abilities,life-experience and ispirations.

Emily did say that Home was different than their first two albums and they just go through this natural progression with their music, so nobody knows whats next. I dont think the Chicks will know whats next for them until they get into the studio. I bet it'll be great though!
