great review! QUESTION: When are you guys planning out putting out a greatest hits album? I don't understand the need for a greatest hits album in this day of downloading. People can make their own greatest hits CD. The Chicks have already put out a live CD with a lot of their hits. I just want new stuff. while i mostly agree with this, i have to also state, for those of us who will not be attending any concerts b/c of "rescheduling", it will be our only opportunity to hear how they have re-worked some songs, so i would def. vote "yes" in this case.

I'm really wondering how they are going to put together the footage because it was ALL over the place as far as dialogue and talking and the Q & A. Very odd way of taping this. From what I have heard almost all of the Storytellers shows or many of them at least have been done that way. They have been all over the place and then they are edited into sequence etc.

I am very thankful to Angela for her lengthy and heartfelt review downloaded from her home site of The Henhouse. Her detail of the nuts and bolts of the day is not something I want to add to because she said it very well. What I do want to hone in on are the differences between her read on the show and my own feelings about what transpired. In addition, I am a people person and I would like to describe the relationships I experienced during this memorable day.
To clarify one thing, I was not the one who was disappointed with how they left the stage at the end of the show. I fully understood that this was a taping and not a live show. This was very similar to the XM Radio show in May and should be looked at as something that would be edited to the hilt until it is broadcast worthy. This allows the performers to let their guard down and be who they really are because any mistake (like Martie forgetting her solo in Cowboy) can be retaped or edited out.
This was not a concert per se but rather an improvisational conversation about their music and a performance of each song discussed. This is not an easy thing to do unless you are a stand up comedian, which Natalie admittedly is sometimes. I am very forgiving when it comes to performers because from my own experience (which I won’t go into) I know how difficult this kind of gig is.
From a male fan’s point of view, I was in Chicks heaven this night. Although my streak of three straight front row experiences ended with a mere 3rd row seat (I am a spoiled brat) I got to see the three most talented female musicians alive. With four lovely women as my “dates”, how could I be disappointed? This is what the Dixie Chicks are all about for me, quoting Natalie: “Women influencing women”. I am one lucky guy.
Angela (aka Dora) is an original. I love and respect her for her longevity as a Chicks fan (this was number 40 for her) and for her unique insights about Chickdom both onstage and backstage. I would enjoy being able to ask her question after question about each one of the 40 times she has seem them perform. I have been with her for the last two (Borgata and Storytellers) and I hope to be with her at some other shows down the road. In addition, she belted out the intense part of NRTMN for Bev and I on 6th street last night after the show to a deserted L.A. downtown that took me by surprise. Angela, please don’t forget me when you make it big. Didn’t we say something about a managerial contract?
Melissa (aka MBCChick) and her mom Lynn (who promised to come on CRCR and become a member) were right behind us in line outside the venue waiting for the doors to open. I had to call the security people because they tried to get ahead of us (just kidding!!). They had driven down from Bakersfield for the show. Somehow we knew we were fellow CRCR members and we started talking about, what else, the Dixie Chicks and the web-site. I immediately recognized her screen name and was so happy to meet both her and Lynn. I loved what you said in your post about how emotional the show was for you. I can so relate to how this music brings tears to your eyes.
Bev (aka Songbird) was my spiritual connection for the day. She came all the way from Connecticut for this show which impressed me. She has a very understanding family I’m sure. She also has a 10 year old daughter who shares a love of the Dixie Chicks. I read some of her daughter’s poems and songs and I melted. There are times when you can totally open up to someone and be who you really are without any fear. This was one of those times for me. The love and respect we both feel for the Dixie Chicks is a real joy to share. As Bev said, this is family and I have to agree. Songbird, please tell me we will meet again somewhere in Dixie Chickdom.
I’m sure I could come up with some other stuff like seeing Junichi again (he did get a photo of the banner I think). Or the fact that without my four dates looking out for me, I would have sat in the back row. (Thanks Ladies!!) But I’m going to conclude with tears of joy for being able to share this experience with women, beautiful loving women.

I think its interesting about the way the Chicks seemed,to our super fans. Dora and kent. I wonder if they are just tired, but for the 3 of them to be down,is worrying. I hope its nothing.

I also attended and met some new friends from the board. I am from Oklahoma. I attended the pre-party and let me tell you it was wonderful!! Lots of Grey Goose Martinis and snacks. As always DC Fans are welcoming, and wonderful. Several members of the band came through, and YES I saw Lance and Reichen. Comments are being held back by my finger against my lips on the pair of them. But the Chicks were awesome, and so inspiring with their music and stories.

It's been a few days since the incredible Storytellers event. WOW is right, mbcchicks! What a night. Thanks to Kent, Dora, mbcchicks and the other newbie CRCR's bloggers for your fantastic, detailed reviews. I cannot think of another concert detail from the evening to add. My mind has been busy replaying my experiences traveling to LA from CT, leaving my kids with hubby behind, as I was on an incredible adventure! I think it was a mini-mid life crisis...harmless, fun and wonderful. I am blessed with an understanding husband (who, by the way, likes to ski with the boys once a year) who let me do my thing. And what an adventure it was --- meeting fellow CRCR members, seeing the Chicks in an incredible intimate venue....3rd row with fellow CRCR members all around me! And meeting Junichi (sp?)! ;D Thanks Dora for a lot of insight to the Chicks from all your experiences and dealings with fan clubs, and Martie. What stories you have. I am so happy you experienced the shout-out from Martie, what a memory for all CRCR fans to have experienced with you. I appreciated your PM to me the day we arrived home, making sure I got home safely. Melissa and your Mom (Linda, was it??), how awesome are the two of you, I mean awesome! What joy you brought to my night. I wish we had more time together after the show to chat and recap the concert. You had a magical night with Natalie's eye contact and the newbie dialogy right by your side. Please check your PM. Dilogy, you had me going with the whole Emily's cousin thing. Sounds like you have a great sense of humor, and welcome to the board. I cannot find the screen name for the young gentleman from the south who shared our pre-game table...welcome to the board and it was a pleasure meeting you.... Just found you, chixstir, great name! Kent, WOWOWOWOWOW! From the moment I started with this site I could sense your loving spirit. I cannot wait to experience another concert with you. Meeting Junichi was awesome. He spotted Kent in line while we were waiting to get in, and came directly over to say hello to him. As I mentioned to Melissa (mbcchicks and her mom), I wanted to be glued to Kent the entire night. I felt he came with experience and the Chicks knew he was a noble man, therefore, by default I would be an okay fan, and not the stalker type. James, we really did try to get the banner on TV. Kent also tried to get it signed. Perhaps this will happen when you see them. Overall, I loved seeing the Chicks and meeting everyone. I do hope the Chicks can get past the media’s constant focus of “the incident”. It feels like the Chicks are ready to move on from it and get back to making music, giggles and babies! p.s. Dora, please, no grammar reviews on my recap…I am awful with the written word. You on the other hand, as Steve Martin would say, “are marvelous”!

Yes, Em it will also be in attendance. Maybe you and your mom will hold it up during part of the show and then I can come to your seats and hold it up from our seats. Deal?

One thing I did remember Martie saying: She's a huge document taker when it came to writing songs. I remember her saying she had notebooks upon notebooks of notes that she took because if something brilliant was said or happened in the song writing process, she wanted to be able to have it. Kind of funny that I do the same thing during a class. That, or in my online classes, I print out EVERYTHING just so I have it. And... we're both lefties.
