It seems like it's finally going to happen. Selena Gomez, she of The Only Murders In The Building fame, is set to portray the iconic songstress Linda Ronstadt in a biopic being co-produced by James Keach (who co-produced the Grammy-winning 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound Of My Voice) and John Boylan (whom Linda has known since 1970). Selena apparently met with Linda a few months ago, and got Linda's blessing to portray her. Although forced into retirement via the loss of her four-octave voice due to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy in 2013, Linda, starting with the folk-rock group The Stone Poneys in 1967, became one of the single most influential female singers in American music history, essaying a myriad of styles: rock; opera; American standards; jazz; R&B; blues; Mexican rancheras (she is Mexican-American); folk (traditional and contemporary); and left-of-center country. Her two Trio albums with gal pals Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris remain among the most important albums in country music history; and Linda's own 1970's country-rock albums have influenced generations of female artists, including Trisha Yearwood, Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, and even the Chicks themselves.
