Despite no longer being in the best of health, suffering as she is from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Linda Ronstadt, the undisputed Queen of Country-Rock, is celebrating her 77th birthday today.
Let not the fact that she is in poor health lead you to believe she isn't still active in her own way. Last fall, she published a second memoir, Feels Like Home, written with former New Yrok Times writer Lawrence Downes, about her own family's history and ancestry in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona and northern Mexico, complete with authentic recipes from her family. She also takes aim at our country's (or at least the last president's) attitudes towards migrants crossing the U.S./Mexico border, especially in the Arizona sector, and she also has choice words about that "big beautiful wall".
Just this week, it was announced that there in fact will be a big-screen film based on Linda's life, with Selena Gomez (of Only Murders In The Building fame) portraying the iconic female singer whose record sales top one hundred million copies, which are Elvis/Beatles-magnitude sales. The film is probably still two years away at best, and perhaps longer with both the Writer's Guild and SAG-AFTRA on strike all at once now; but if it happens, watch out.
And finally, as a wonderful and friendly gesture, on her recent album release Sweet Western Sound, country music legend Tanya Tucker, who it seems many weren't aware of had been a long-standing fan, paid tribute to Linda via the song "Letter To Linda", which she co-wrote with her co-producer Shooter Jennings:
Happy Birthday, Linda. As Tanya sings: "You already stole the show".
