I know all about the movie streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu, but the only real place to see a movie is on a big screen inside a darkened cinema. And that's why what happened this week in Hollywood is one of those things called a BFD--or a Big F***ing Deal. ArcLight and Pacific, two of the big movie theater chains in this country, are saying that they cannot rebound from thirteen months worth of their theaters being shuttered because of the pandemic: ktla.com/news/local-news/arclight-cinemas-and-pacific-theaters-shutting-down-all-locations-permanently/One of those theaters being threatened with permanent shuttering is this iconic one at 6360 Sunset Boulevard, in the heart of Hollywood--the Cinerama Dome: There are rumors that big names in Hollywood, including Quentin Tarantino, may be in the running to save and re-open this iconic movie house, which first opened in November 1963 with the film IT"S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, and also famously hosted director Stanley Kubrick's landmark 1968 sci-fi masterpiece 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. And again, even with all the streaming services out there, and the fact that going to the movies, prior to COVID-19, meant spending a lot...when you get right down to it, it is the aesthetic experience of seeing this great art form known as the Motion Picture the way they are intended to be seen: on a Big Screen.

Yes indeed. And while we know that nothing stays the same or lasts forever, it still hurts to see a piece of history, and a part of a lot of people's lives, vanish because of this horrible collision of a deadly virus and the huge economic impact it has had on this one particular industry.
