Anyone know what time on Wed it is going to be released? At mid-night? And of at mid-night what time zone?? LOL I don't know for sure, but in some other cases, I know songs are made available on major on-line music sites at midnight, regardless of time zones, e.g people in the Far East have sometimes been able to hear and buy songs several hours before people still waiting for the release in Europe or America. Sony could presumably stagger the availability in different markets, but that would be up to them.

I agree. I thought the same thing upon seeing the new video snippet. When she first teased the song, I thought of Adrian. It's the video snippet that changes the perception. It had been in the back of my mind, considering the fact that I haven't really seen the term 'gaslighting' used other than mainstream media using it to refer to Trump. But i didn't think too much about it since it has been made clear that the song and album focuses greatly on Natalie's doomed marriage. But with that clip, and knowing that most people who will watch the music video have not kept up on DCX news like we have, I think it will inevitably be interpreted as political. I hope I'm wrong, and having not seen the entire music video, I might be, but I can picture half the YouTube comments being people yelling at each other over Trump LOL. But that kinda happens no matter what, I guess.

I just mean as far as hearing it being used in the mainstream, like on TV or in day to day conversation. My therapist explained what it meant a couple years back, but aside from that I never really heard people use the term much. Then all of the sudden it became a pretty big talking point within the MSM. Google 'Trump gaslighting' and you will be sucked into a never-ending vortex.

I must say I liked the snippets from the youtube videos posted here better than the finished product. I donno just doesn't have the same energy?
And they tease that incredible dance and show him for like 5 seconds?
I do like it.

The visuals so far are awful. That cover art for the single is so bad 😂

My initial thoughts:
--Very much about Natalie's reactions to the build up to and aftermath of her divorce.
--video is pretty complex and quirky, even to the extent of becoming disjointed. But I think the opening shots parody the cosiness of conventional expectations and the crash of dreams. Later newsreel shots seem to contrast society's dependence on women in wartime and industrial roles, with an expected quick return to conventional stereoptyping when the emergency is over - e.g pictures of women marching quickly blend into more cosy cheerleader type roles
--later visuals weren't a huge success for me - I think the exaggerated parody uniforms the Chicks and their dancers wear were in danger of being overdone.
--musically, there were few traces of the Roots scene that the Chicks came from (and I think are still identified with by many fans.) The main verse section (talking about Hollywood ) was probably the best part of the song for me. This does include traces of Western rhythm, which (despite what she sometimes says) is Natalie's strongest field in my opinion. After that a brief shot of Texan dancing, and another second of a Rockabilly slap bass seem, only parody references.
--taken as a whole, the song was more interesting than the clips had led me to fear - but I would class it as fairly conventional experimental Pop. One artist it put me somewhat in mind of was Cyndi Lauper (but I've no idea whether this was in any way an intentional influence). For me, it was very dominated by Natalie and (while that may tie in well with the theme and title), it may be questionable whether that makes it the best choice for a lead single for a long awaited trio album. The others seemed to have a lot less to do here, and there was no glimpse of their instruments. That may change in the live versions - but I certainly hope the rest of the album is much more varied.

A couple of relevant articles VarietyRolling StoneThe Rolling Stone article identifies the video director as Seanne Farmer (who is probably best known for work with Bette Midler) Emily is also quoted as saying that this first song (co-wriiten with Jack Antonoff) sets the sound for the whole album (I can't say I'm too thrilled about that, lol)

Not a fan of the video but the song is good and catchy. I'll have it on repeat on my Spotify for sure. (Oh yeah, and HI EVERYBODY!)

The director dropped the ball with that video lol
That is not a comeback video 😂 The chicks were barely featured.

The song is fantastic, but the video is definitely not my cup of tea. I'd say most of the Chicks' music videos aren't my cup of tea, though. XD
Listened to it a couple dozen times today, will listen to it a couple dozen more tonight.

creatively, i can see where the director was coming from but i agree that they missed the mark a little bit. the chicks presence just wasn't really that significant in this video. i would've loved to see a bit more than them standing infront of a backdrop and i'm guessing that we'll see that with the next video.
Right now i'm hoping that the creative direction of Gaslighter as a single was just a blip and that things will improve once the album comes along. so far everything feels like it was just thrown together (the site and merch.)
I do love all the camp in the video, though! especially the last few seconds.
(i'm getting fly vibes from their new theme)
but i'd also like to point out the difference between this photo and the cover for gaslighter as a single... hopefully this shows the change that we'll see.

That Gaslighter video and single cover art is abysmal. But the other photo is cool. Should have been more prominent.
All of this is kind of underwhelming, honestly. Their marketing team has always sucked tho

I agree with what others have said here too. I love the song, and I have always loved the Chicks (btw, Hi Nici! I remember your site from back in the day! I was on there all the time!), but the video was weird... I didn't care for all the cuts to old-timey black and white reels of other stuff. Like I get that it's not their first video, so they don't need to be featured all the time, but it has been 14 years so a few more close ups would have been nice.
