This is the Roots radio chart, published by the AMA and based on the spins by their reporting stations (a mixture of terrestrial, satellite and internet radio). They don't deal in "singles", so the spins refer to any tracks played from the album. They have come in at number 35 on the format's "top 40" www.americanaradio.org/ama/displaychart_beforetracks.asp?mode=lw&dtkey=While this is good news, it's a week later than I predicted (based on them heading the chart's "new adds" after release), and it's not the highest debut of the week (Lubbock fiddler and vocalist, Amanda Shires, who is newly married to the chart's current topper, Jason Isbell, beat them to that) I suspect they may be hard pressed to emulate their first album's run, which reached the top ten on this chart - but time will tell.

They have been getting a lot of radio play. Here, in Alabama, they play them on the country station a little. I've heard "Sunshine" a few times. Or parts of it... because I really don't listen to radio. My friends do.

No, and I'm afraid they probably won't.

Even on the AMA chart - which was probably their best hope of a good radio reception - they've fallen three places this week to 38 (implying they'll be lucky not to drop out of the published top 40 altogether next week)
I think an album more along the lines of last time's "Ain't No Son" would have soared on this chart. As it is, I'm afraid this format may find both the musical style and much of the subject matter rather too light to give much airtime to.

Hey, its good that they are on the charts getting noticed! I think people tend to overlook their talent because they assume that the sisters lacked the talent that Natalie was able to show (vocally) only because she was front and center. I think people think the girls are good musicians but not vocalists. Emily is soooooo incredibly strong vocally that I'm surprised she wasn't given a chance to do a solo on an album back in the day.
But remember when Natalie said that sometimes when Martie or Em would do a solo at some of the shows that "people's mouths would just drop".....would love to find some rare footage of that.

I'm glad to say I was too premature in suggesting their fall to 38 last week would see them dropping out of the chart. They've actually risen again this week, to 32. Although this may not sound a spectacular recovery, a rise is a rise, and it does put them higher than their debut position two weeks ago. The main thing is, they're still being played!

They're still bouncing up and down in the 30s, dropping three places this week to 35. This makes their fourth week on the chart.

Their see-saw positioning in the lower part of the the top 40 is continuing. Last week they dropped out of the published chart (but I held back from reporting it, as I thought it might be too soon to write off their run altogether). Sure enough, they did bounce back this week, regaining their original debut position of 35.
As they had been missing for a week, the AMA are marking this as a new "debut" - it remains to be seen if it will lead to further progress this time!
(For comparison, the second album by the Civil Wars - which was released around the same time - reached the top 10 on this chart last week, and is now at number 5.)
