This single sounds a lot like the first album.

I like it. I wish the banjo was as prominent as the live version but it's still really good. Definitely a good choice for first single. Can't wait for July 16th!

Interesting - I think this song is quite complex.
On one level, it appears to capture something of a summer mood, and fit into the demand for fairly upbeat songs. The music itself is actually quite light (for example, when you compare it with the driving Mountain Music feel of "Ain't No Son")
But the lyrics themselves have quite a bit of bite - amounting to a critique of a flawed personality, who craves attention, but can't relate to the needs of others.
With some likely inevitable errors, this is my initial take on the lyrics:
"They tell me that you don't like people, You can only believe in yourself You pity all those who lack your higher breeding, So I can see the reason you don't have anybody left. Could it be you wear your fur on the inside Prefer not to go outside, where the sky is way too blue? Tonight you'll grace us with all your inner presence While your backhanded complements appear out of the blue
CHORUS Hey-ey, don't rain on my parade, kill a perfect day wasting my time Hey-ey, You always find a way to bring me down when I feel fine We call you sunshine
I'm just an angel that sits upon your shoulder And says the world will pass you over while you're waiting for a crown You're no stranger to the art of how to fake it You play until you break it - mak it hard to be around
CHORUS
Some day, you'll be up on your mountain, high above the clouds Where you can never be found But you start a fight just to beg for intervention You like the drama and attention, God forbid we bring you down
CHORUS"

I can't believe how much I love it. I wasn't 100% sold on the live version, but this... Just. Kudos girls. I look forward to hearing it on the radio. I know I'll be calling into my local radio stations to see if they'll play it.
This is exactly how I picture a 5th Dixie Chicks album would've sounded.

Finally heard it. Thanks hilb. Yeah its dang good. I like the pumping bass drum. It's "poppy" yeah. The bridge seems kind of generic, despite the fiddle. Why do these songs have to all go ...verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, long chorus?? Lol That being said... how much did they pay Taylor Swift for this jingle?
