Thanks, Oregon - I really enjoyed this podcast.
It lasts about half an hour, and the interview elements are minimal - only enough to get Martie talking, and hence it comes across mainly as her thoughts and reminiscences, with occasional friendly input from the host.
Although the two bands are treated equally by the host in his intro, with links to find out more about them, there's really nothing in the podcast about the hiatus or the "usual questions" - so if you're mainly interested in picking up clues about the present/future situation, you probably won't find them here.
But you will find a good portrait of Martie's character, her early days, influences, the people she performed with, and the benefits of the Festival style for young musicians, the formative years of the Dixie Chicks - really up to the time they left Music Row, for the more congenial music scene of Austin.
Martie opens up, I think more at her ease than I've ever heard her before - and the best thing is how happy she sounds. No offence to those missing the DCs - but I think it's great if they can get away from each others' shadows, and the constraints their images seem to pose for each other. (That has nothing to do with the politics - Otis Gibbs is probably to the left of Natalie, his music more reminiscent of Steve Earle or Billy Bragg - but more to do with the milieu and style they seem to relate to and find congenial)
