I ran across this video online. It wasn't posted by the official channel. "Ain't No Son" is playing.... but.... it seems to be footage from the recording of the 2nd CYH album.

Thanks for posting - it would be intriguing to know more of the details of that occasion.
Meanwhile "Ain't No Son" is a great song - so far I think their only appearance on the Mainstream Country airplay chart (where it reached the 60s - good for such a rootsy band with no official Mainstream promotion)
My hope would be that we hear a definite date soon for the new album. The Texas Monthly article implied it's still languishing with no certainty about release. It looks as if Columbia may not be willing to promote both CYH and NM albums together - or perhaps they themselves are putting it on hold till after the Chicks dates.

I'd be surprised if Columbia don't bother with it. I can see there being an issue with the release but I think it's just about the timing of it.

On Twitter, there was a lot of talk about it being marketed to Country Radio more so than AAA. And some dude saying they're filming a video for "Sunshine" in a few days. I'm gonna find the links. I actually hope Country gets it and plays it. Considering the first release sold as well as it did without radio, Columbia will most likely push this album more so than the last. Also, they're always talking about these SONY meetings that they're at.... so, the talk of Columbia not pushing it is pretty unlikely.

There's some indication that the new album will include songs that are lighter in tone. That should help with radio. Roots stations tend to feature more songs that are works in their own right, with darker themes and differentiation in thought and mood. The Mainstream rely more on the expectation that radios will be left on for long periods, and songs are expected not to give the listener too much pause for thought. This tends to favour more generic, catchy, go-with-the-flow songs that don't disturb the listener's mood too much.
As Carrie's finding, the label will back darker songs if the artist has good relations with radio - but after an abuse and murder song in succession, Sony Arista seem to have shown cold feet, and are now releasing a much lighter song (one she wrote for a film three years ago, and hasn't been singing in her tour concerts)
The CYH can't be said to have strong relations with radio - so a more cheerful, upbeat feel to some of the music should be a sensible approach, if they hope to get radio interest in the music. (I sure hope "Phoebe" makes it to the album though!) There is definitely a faction at present that is pushing for more twang. This won't take over - but it will open the possibility of a window for rootsy music that is not considered too alienating.

"Phoebe" and "Happy Days" are the two songs that I want to hear on the new album.
