This was interesting - but a revelation to me, as I never really look at sales figures. I have to confess that I haven't heard many of these albums - guess I spend too long listening to obscure Roots artists! music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-extra-top-albums-last-10-years-181452729.htmlAnyway, you'll see that "Home" was the 14th best selling album of the decade. I think that's pretty remarkable, considering it was a deliberate break with Nashville, made in Austin, artist produced, with a leading Alternative sector co-producer, acoustically driven, and strongly Bluegrass influenced. Although, IMHO, it probably doesn't beat "Fly", for the latter's sheer breadth of exploration of different Country Music styles - it nevertheless is likely to stand as the Chicks' tour-de-force in instrumental skill, and of confidence in their musical vision. Although everyone will have their own favourite, I think the song from it with the most significance for the Country Music community must be "Long Time Gone". Written by Darrell Scott, and first recorded by him with Tim O'Brien in 2000, this remarkable song begins as a lament for the loss of the traditional Country way of life, progresses into a rejection of the false nostalgia implied in not accepting that ("It ain't coming back again"), but with sympathy for those who can't accept that ("Lord I never meant to do her harm") - and goes on to the verse with a stinging attack on Mainstream Country radio.

Sweet, but it would have sold more had it not been for the "incident".

I love that album and am so proud it came in the running. Fly is probably my favorite also, but Home just hits...home with me. Maybe cause the Chicks and Lloyd produced it and it was recorded here.

If we do this then we may be able to reduce the use of text speak which is a horror show.

I'd heard of Adele on here and bought an album. After the first 1 or 2 songs they are all the same thing, whining about a lost love. Pat Benetar beat that horse to death years back and then beat it some more, I think Adele needs something new to whine about!
