If your friend doesn't mind hot weather from early May to late October, Austin is a neat town. San Antonio is one hour south and Houston is three hours southeast. Rockport (I think the town in the CYH "Coast" song is about 4 hours south. It's not a bad state at all. Great food. Great people...just ignore our damn Governors. :-)

I'll have a look down the back of my sofa and see if there's enough cash there to be able to take this off Martie's hands!!

When I was in Austin for the benefit concert in October, I did a little searching for the address I had for her house. It was difficult to find but with the help of a local real estate agent, I found it. It is pretty far out of town in the country.

Wow! How close did you get to the actual house? What did you tell the real estate agent- I'm a fan and want a peek at her house haha?

I could see the house back beyond the gate. There seemed to be a few other buildings on the compound and I think there was about 7 acres of land. I told the agent I had someone interested in buying a place with a recording studio. I actually do have a friend who would consider the place but Austin is a bit out of the way for him.

I wonder where Martie is thinking of moving? Further in town perhaps, or maybe San Antonio to be closer to Emily? I know their mother & step-father live in Bandera, or somewhere near there. I hope she isn't leaving Texas.

What rather concerns me is that Martie has, or had, a recording studio at this property., which played an important part in the CYH l;aunch. (Joe Ely urged her to install it, and it was used for the album, and web chats). Martie gave the studio a name, with the implication that it might have wider and on-going uses.
Of course, recording can be done anywhere, studios can be hired, and Martie herself may simply move the equipment with her to a new location. But, since the fire benefit concert, and Martie's recent brief interview, I'm hoping for some reassurance about their future plans.

I'm just going to think positive and assume that the place she's looking to buy now has one. But then again, if worse came to worse, they still have that tiny studio in Emily's loft...It's not a full-on studio, but they could do some work there.

My guess was it was the first letter of each of her children.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't understand how selling her home leads to the conclusion that this is the end of CYH. People sell their homes for many reasons. The new house could have a studio or Martie may build one or not. A breakup is a huge assumption to make just because there may not be a personal studio.

It's not an assumption of a break-up - more a concern that their only active project may be slipping by default into low gear, at an upcoming time when it could benefit from some unambiguous reinforcement.
Obviously, no one is trying to suggest that Martie must stay at her current location, or that she can't build or buy another studio. All I'd like is some reassuring signs.
The move alone wouldn't worry me. It's her personal business, in any case. What does concern me more is the decision to pass up the opportunity to perform their new material to a different audience, in prestigious company, at the Fire Benefit, Both bands were originally billed to appear - instead the decision was taken to perform only as the Dixie Chicks, with a mixture of songs from five years ago and eight years ago or longer. Welcome though the reappearance of the Dixie Chicks was, the sad fact is they have nothing new to offer, and I was hoping that they would share the bill with the currently active project (as advertised).
Martie's recent interview was ambiguous, but offered little by way of reassurance. Although she spoke about having fun and missing an arm and a leg without music, she was quoted in the past tense, and only made a remark about a possible mini tour with another artist, which may not now happen. It was unclear which band this referred to - it was in a paragraph which began with the Hounds, but the reporter's focus was clearly on the Chicks, and it may have been written up with the assumption that most readers would interpret it as referring to the trio.
Taken together, those points leave me hoping for some more positive news of future activity.

I also can't see a problem with selling Martie's house...........I don't suppose she had a studio when the Chicks were recording 'Fly', 'Home' or any other album. And as for the Hounds being a thing of the past, aren't they doing a live show in February as a band? I can only presume( I know that could be dangerous) that had they decided the Hounds project wasn't 'ongoing' then they would see no reason to perform at this time..............
Here's a different more positive angle............ It's a big house with a studio that needs alot of cash to run. Could it be that Martie bought this property with a view to rent the studio to artists and make an income from the proceeds to help pay for the property? Is there other buildings on the land that artists could use for accomodation and a professional kitchen.....almost like a small hotel..........so artists could lock themselves away so they can work. And so...............when the Hounds project was born lets not forget it was Martie who urged Emily not to let her songs go to other artists...................and the CYH were then born. Did Martie have this business plan already up and running and with the CYH project underway, decided that she doesn't have the time on her hands to run a business outside the CYH. Which......... to cut a long story short........could mean that Martie has decided to ditch the business in order to perform??
Hyperthetical I know............but, another angle to chew over...

I feel I should clarify the point I was making. I've nowhere suggested that the Hounds have broken up, or are finished. What I am suggesting is that their project is likely to benefit from active and public commitment, and that I'd welcome more reassurance that that is still their ongoing intention. Hence, what I'm talking about is a question of emphasis, rather than an "either/or" matter of "finished or not finished".
As I said, the move alone would not concern me - it's more a question of wondering about the implications for future recording in the context of the Fire Benefit, and the latest interview - neither of the latter seemed to offer reassurance about the future, and all I'm saying is that the project could benefit from definite and frequent promotion.
That promotion must came, largely from the Hounds themselves. The point about major Dixie Chick albums not needing a personal home studio is true - but it must be seen against Sony's promotion of the Chicks as a major label act, with Grade A producers and session players, and a strong publicity push. In effect, the Columbia/Monument machine turned the Chicks from a self-financed and fan-financed Alternative act, into a multi-million major label phenomenon. I'm afraid they're most unlikely to do the same for the Hounds - the signs are that they're only willing to promote the Hounds, at most, to around the Brandi Carlile level (they're not even getting as much publicity from Sony as Miranda Lambert's side project, the Pistol Annies)
The upshot is that they need to take every opportunity to reinforce their presence and ongoing future themselves. Effectively, in their only currently active role, they're back to being an Alternative band. There is surely a limit to the number of useful times they can build an interview around the statement that the door is open for Natalie, and it all depends on her to decide if and when she's ready (something that any journalist could easily look up from previous interviews). Not reinforcing the present and the Hounds' active role tends to be a wasted opportunity. It's that sort of reinforcement that I'm hoping for.

Not Rob, no...
I'm afraid, if you knew Rob Davis, it will come as a shock to hear that he's no longer with us. Sadly, I believe he fell victim to Motor Neurone disease (a condition that progressively affects control of the muscles) and lost his battle with this condition.
Rob was in fact one of two Dixie Chick webmasters to pass away in the last few years, the other being Nancy Atkins, who owned this message board and extensive media archive.
RIP
