To explain further~: Obviously, if Natalie's not ready to work with the Chicks, it's hardly likely that she'd want to tour or make a major recording with the new band either (that might be a smaller commitment - but not much smaller, so I'd be inclined to rule it out) But there are other things she could do, that wouldn't seem to clash with family priorities, e.g collaborating on the songwriting, appearing on on one of the chats (or even sending a tape) - or perhaps one guest song on a new album. Those are the kind of things I meant by "working with the Hounds". I've tended to want to keep the two bands separate - and I still think Natalie might complicate the extent to which some potential fans accept the CYH as a band in their own right (But that is happening anyway - at least for some of the audience, who do seem to see the Hounds as primarily a waiting game for the Chicks' return) So I'd be interested to see what people think.

I think it's best to keep the two groups apart. It is understandable that when Martie and Emily had songs lined up that they wanted to do right then and there, they formed their own duo identity under another moniker. Natalie, for whatever reason (some would say excuse, but I won't), simply didn't feel ready to go back into the lion's den yet.
In any case, I do think the album that Emily and Martie made as a duo was one of the best recordings of last year; and if they want to make a second album as the Court Yard Hounds, then they should do it. If or when Natalie feels ready to go back to work, then they can do that as well. In the end, however, I prefer to let things run their course, instead of forcing something out of them simply to satisfy an appetite for new material.

For me, I want to see the CYH be completely separate. I think any contribution by Natalie would clash with the new music. It would also make me want a DCX album all the more. I love how the sisters have created an entirely new sound and I'm more inclined to see how they can progress without Natalie. When Natalie is ready, the DCX will blow us away with a new album.

No because Natalie does not fit into their new style. She is too off the wall nowadays. It seems like she can't appreciate THOSE PEOPLE (US) who put her up in a big house in LA and drive a car those costs more than our homes. She needs to learn to be grateful instead of thinking the whole world hates her and wanting a pity party. No one cares about her anymore.

I would keep them seperate as well. Meaning not recording together for the Hounds. Appearing on a chat however I do feel that it would be possible, I mean they are taking out the old chicks footage anyway. Next chat they will continue that, i've read so in that spirit maybe one chat w Natalie singing some songs of the Chicks would be amazing. But I dont think it will happen, I have the feeling Natalie isnt interested in doing that.

Agreed with James. There's no point in the Hounds if Natalie's anywhere near them.

I agree they should keep the bands seperate..... any sign of Natalie with the Hounds would be judged as a DCX collaberation.. I also think the next album from the Chicks will be simply amazing....

Keep the bands entirely separate!
If Natalie wants to work with Emily and Natalie, then let it be with the DCX and a new album and tour. Hopefully, this time, with a little more enthusiasm. The last tour was disappointing.

As much as I want to see Natalie back making music and touring with Martie and Emily I think it's just best to keep the bands apart. If Natalie ever comes back, she should come back with DCX.

I think they should keep the groups seperate. People get angry when they do something together, eventhough it's rare. I think people see it as a tease and lash out when there's no announcement of a tour or new album.

I still think that Em and Martie should have kept the name Dixie Chicks...who cares if the lead singer is missing (which really says how much they respect Natalie) you are the founders of the group.
I just think its so hard for people to recognize these two girls as the Courtyard Hounds and Dixie Chicks. I think they would have more success if ppl were familiar with who they were. If you hear the radio jockey say "Coming up a new one from the CYH" you would be like "Who the hell is that?" rather than "A new one from the DCX on the way" you would be like "Hell ya".......you know what I'm saying?? LOL.....
I don't like the name CYH and never will, sorry. But love them!

I don't personally know Natalie so I can't judge her. She just isn't interested in singing anymore and that is fine. God Bless her. Anyways, the show "Why Not with Shania Twain" should be "Why Not with Natalie Maines"...lol....cause Shania saids she lost her passion for performing and singing...I think that would be a good show for Natalie to share with her fans...anyone agree?

Natalie's shown over the years that she's pretty adaptable. musically. I think she could fit in with new style, if she felt motivated to do so.
But I think that's unlikely - partly because the CYH seem very much a personal venture for the sisters, and partly because they are pitched more to the more intimate and independent music market of Alt. Country/Folk Rock/Americana (which I suspect might have less appeal for Natalie.) I may be wrong, but I don't really think Natalie would come back for the Austin, Festival, or smaller venue club scene.
My own view is that the CYH should have a clear run as a new band - they are distinct enough in sound not to need the Dixie Chick connection (though I feel we have to accept that their style of music will almost certainly mean a smaller scale, more independent niche market, rather than the Mainstream fame the Chicks had for about five years)
However, whenever the CYH are mentioned, it seems neither the press, nor many fans, can leave the Dixie Chick connection aside during the hiatus (and - let's face it - Emily and Martie continue to play to that interest themselves in their chats)
That's why I began this poll - but it's interesting to see that there was a nearly 90% vote from the respondents here to keep the two bands separate.

I agree fully. Whatever makes them happy and is good enough for them is good enough for me, regardless of the commercial consequences, good or bad, and under whatever guise they choose. Whatever they do will inevitably be different from everything else out there, and that's a good thing (IMHO).

What I was saying is that Em and Martie founded the group and just because Nat was missing I think they still should have kept the name.

Using the name Dixie Chicks wouldn't rule out a later return by Natalie (There are plenty of examples of groups continuing the name while members are missing for a while, but then rejoin)
But I don't think they'd do that - they see the CYH as not only different in musical style, but also pitched at a more intimate, smaller scale market. That seems right IMO
