Got an email this afternoon from Cornerstone Promotion alerting me to Billboard's Top 25 Country Artists of the last 25 years. ================================================ Hey Dixie Chick Fans!
To celebrate country music’s big week (with Billboard's Country Summit and the CMT Music Awards), Billboard.com has combed the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Top Country Albums charts to rank the Top 25 Country Artists of the Last 25 years!!================================================ The Chicks came in at #18. Delighted that they made the list, thanks for posting this Nancy. Although I think they should be ranked higher than 18...

Well, the ranking is factual, based on weeks in the Billboard charts - so on that basis it was inevitable that stadium-stuffing hat acts like Strait and Brooks were going to come top (George Strait had 44 number ones over that period, which is a virtually impossible target for another artist to match). What is remarkable is that the Chicks were only a significant Mainstream act for about 5 of those 25 years (1999-2003) - yet they still made the list. (Of course, if I was feeling mean, I could apply the Geezinslaw Brothers' Texas song about the "hat acts" to the Billboard charts: "You call it Country - I call it bad Rock 'n' Roll"But Emily already borrowed that joke a couple of years ago!)
