hopefully emily and martie will tell us soon... On the official site, it says it's "sung from the myopic point of view of an angry, unaccepting father". For what it's worth - Mainstream fans may turn out to like like this song too. Several of my friends in the Carrie Underwood fan base are calling it one of their two favourites so far (the other being FOWT). To quote one: "Ain't No Son proves they're not going to lose their edge just because Natalie's one of the feistiest singers around."Thanks Bingo, I don't know how I missed that, probably too exicted about the music itself! ;D

People are focusing on the gay thing (which, by all appearances is true) but really it's just about lack of acceptance, period. It could just as easily be an inter-racial relationship, an unconventional career/education path...just not living "up" to a parent's hopes and dreams....
But as I said before, I want more of this musicality on the album...just a personal preferance...

It hasn't been officially been announced as the first single but at least one station is playing it.

I was watching a youtube video of them, and they did actually say that Ain't no Son was written after watching a documentary of kids being kicked out of home for being gay.

Ahhh, here's the thread. Well, glad to find I was spot on about the song's concept from the first listen.

^ Sounds like one of a hundred other songs by a hundred other bands. That doesn't necessarily make it bad, just nothing to get excited about.
