Oh Nancy I'm sorry to hear this news. My Mum has breast cancer too and has just come thru radiotherapy and is currently recovering. Her diagnosis wasn't good, she's a small lady, just 5 ft and weighing less than 5 stones ( under 70 pounds) and she is making good progress. The tumour has virtually gone and she has now been referred back to our local hospital rather the the specialist one in central London, which can only be good news. I'm praying that you too will pull thru with no problems like my mum appears to be doing.

My Aunt was diagnosed stage 4, and her mass has shrunk to half its size over the last year with her chemo and shots. We all pass on these good vibes to Nancy, and know she too will win this fight!

Update:
Fatigue and nausea are getting to me harder than I thought. Up till now I've had a pretty tough constitution, but this has thrown me for a loop!
I've completed 6 out of 15 radiation treatments. And then for the fun of it (and to torture me), they've scheduled 3 chemotherapy sessions. After that, they might try switching me to anti-estrogen therapy (pills).
Not exactly the fun summer I had planned, to say the least.

All that stuff knocked my Aunt for a loop. She was sleeping 15hrs a day, and had issues eating, but she stuck with it, and is doing much better now. We're all here for you. Keep fighting! There is light at the end of this tough journey!

There is something they can prescribe in California if you're having nausea........... Though you might get in trouble crossing the state line with it. Just sayin'.......

Well, I hope the treatment works for you Nancy.....it's tough for sure. But changing the treatment as you receive it after seeing results from the previous sessions is something that my Mum and my family got used to. I'm sure others will confirm that too.

Hang in there Nancy! I had to do a similar routine a couple of years ago and now I'm cancer free (knock on wood). Surgery and 15 visits to the DEEP tanner appear to have done the trick. I had planned to smuggle in some microwave popcorn in my waist band, but I chickened out at the last minute. Despite the great humor my med. techs. displayed, I was afraid my sense of humor might not be appreciated. My aunt had to do the chemo route twice and is now working full time and just drove across the country to my wedding reception. There is light at the end of the tunnel; just keep pushing that accelerator to the floor mat!

Sorry to come in rather late, but from another "way down south" my thoughts are also with you, Nancy, together with my very best wishes and hopes for a full recovery I'll certainly be back to check on this thread, and praying for good news!

This is indeed an awful disease, and it's one that's affected so many on this board recently, either directly or through family members.
I was in hospital yesterday for a follow-up endoscopy. Although I had to recover with an oxygen mask because of a drop in blood pressure (a problem that also twice interrupted my surgery last year), the more important good news was that, in my case, no further abnormalities were found. Five years are generally reckoned the crucial period to determine whether the disease has gone - but, so far, thank God, I've been one of the fortunate ones.
My thoughts are very much with those currently undergoing treatment (often in itself very grueling). But the possibilities for a successful outcome are definitely increasing as care and research become more focused. Faith, hope and a positive outlook can certainly help in the fight, and we are all rooting for friends affected.

Sorry Nancy, I missed this thread when it first appeared although I did catch the one where you asked for advice on hats.
What strikes me in this thread and also in life is how prevalent cancer is. I have lost friends and family members to cancer but I have also seen lots of people survive it. I was operated on for prostate cancer last year and so far so good - my PSA reading has consistently been negligeable ever since.
All I can say is to hang in there, Nancy. Be brave and remember you have lots of people rooting for you here.
