It's good to see Linda, despite the harrowing effects of her illness, able to receive this honour in person and, at least at that moment, able to stand to meet the President. Although she has never sought honours, the recognition is a fitting endorsement of her art and influence on the music scene.

And one can tell that she is grateful for all this attention. She just doesn't let this all go to her head. Her feeling has always been that she made music and art her life because it was what she felt she needed to do. The success and all the rest were nice, but they weren't why she did it all. Her view is that people who do this for prizes, awards, and the money are already in trouble; and I think she's dead right on this point.
