So I've read that the CYH debut 2010 album has now sold 825,000 copies - not far from 1 million.
How much as Amelita sold? I know it sucks that its available online only, which will reduce sales quite a bit for those without computers.

It's not online only! I was able to get mine at HMV in Toronto. Future Shop didn't carry it but HMV did have it in stores.

The Wal-Mart by me didn't have Amelita either, at least not yet. They had Mother though. ...hAVe Mother...and none have left the shelf. There's always four there. Btw, Best Buy has had both of them. I really don't care about these stats. I mean, yeah, it's upsetting, but it doesn't tell me that they are a bad act. They're just not getting promoted, marketed. But they're still excellent musicians. And, sorry, I also don't care for the dissin they're getting for not being a trio again, or that they can't sing good enough. They're not divas to me. They're also very nice ladies, having met the two of em. But, I understand, everyone is entitled to voice their opinion.

#70 isn't good at all. they did a ton of promotion for this album. I hope this doesn't deter Sony from releasing future CYH albums. I also don't like the fact that people keep bitching about them being on hiatus from the chicks. even though Natalie does kinda suck... solo. sorry.

One can only really speculate what either component (Natalie on her own, or Emily and Martie as the CYH) would have managed with better promotion. But statistics are things for the record labels and the mass media to worry about. What the fans get out of it all is all that matters (IMHO).

Wal-Mart, according to their site, wasn't going to have it until exactly 1 week after its release. I bought mine at Target. only 3 copies of it there, though. I took one which left 2. it took me a while to even find it. was going to ask for help until I found it in one of the 4-5 new release sections.

does anyone know if there is a reason why they didn't have a deluxe edition of "Amelita"? I wondered that about Natalie's album, but I figured there would be one for the sophomore release of the CYH just because there was for their first. I know they don't do that for every album. but thought someone might know if there was a reason...
also, just finished watching "the making of court yard hounds" on the deluxe debut album for the 80th time. did anyone ever read the book called "city of thieves" by david something? is it good? (Emily got the name "court yard hounds" from the book.)

From Billboard:
Court Yard Hounds, "Amelita" (No. 70): The second album by the duo -- Dixie Chicks' Martie Maguire and Emily Robison -- starts with far less (5,000) than its first release: the duo’s self-titled 2010 debut launched at No. 7 with 61,000. All three Chicks have charted this year, following singer Natalie Maines' arrival with her solo debut Mother (No. 17, May 25).

The AMA have them leading the "top 5 most added" artists in radio spins on the Roots stations. When you consider that means they had more initial radio play than Guy Clark's prestigious new release, it is pretty likely that they'll break into the airplay top 30 chart next week.
For comparison, the debut album reached the airplay top ten in this format. (That was also the year they were asked to be guest presenters at their award show, and Emily was asked to be a guest DJ on Sirius, who carry one of the format's top reporting stations). Since then, I'd been a bit worried, as they seemed a bit ambivalent about whether to commit to the format. However, they still have allies and interest there.
Sorry to say, Natalie's "Mother" made no discernible impact on Roots radio, despite what I regard as a good recording of "Silver Bell" (it seems Patty Griffin herself would only have to sneeze to top this format's chart!)

I would say their best bet for recognition would be Grammy nominations. from what I understand and like about the Grammys, they do not care about album sales...

I'm really surprised that sales are so low. I did expect sales to go down because there wasn't as much publicity and hype for the first cd but I thought it would do better than Natalie's album. They should get a bump from the tv appearances they made last week. I enjoy this album. I think it's actually more radio friendly than the first and baffled why they still doing minimal radio promotion. Radio is still the best promotional tool.

It's really amazing at how low the sales are. They sold 5,000 copies week one. Hopefully wiht moer appearance it will give it bump...but otherwise it looks dead on arrival.

hmmmm….having trouble grasping this figure. I'm just baffeled. and if the DCX do get back together to record a new album, i betcha they wouldn't sell close to a million…. they've kinda become irrelevant huh? just sad.

There is without doubt a massive loss of interest. Their Light definately doesn't shine as bright. By that I mean all 3 acts have suffered.......I would guess the label are wanting better figures for 'Amelita' than the debut album in order to give Martie and Emily another album. Doesn't look good at all.

Daft Punk recently released their first album since 2005, and it's one of the biggest albums of the year. People don't become irrelevant from being away. People live their lives, and wouldn't disregard a comeback just because it's been a while.

Daft Punk is initially gettin run all over Pop radio from the get go(with one song mind you, so far). If Martie and Emily,....or Natalie, were given a piece of that opportunity, public feedback could skyrocket for them too. Half the radio listening population are just sheep....They don't know a ton of what they're missing, till some Pop stations FINALLY play it for them. And good luck with that.

All true (esp. Daft Punk, whose song in question, "Get Lucky", sounds almost 70s retro [IMHO]), which is why those of us who do the heavy digging manage to find the gems. You just can't get much of that if all you listen to is Top 40 radio. With a few really rare exceptions, they don't like "different."

or maybe it all has to do with the first being better than the second (imo). or maybe so many people didn't like the sound of the first one, thinking it was going to be more like the Dixie chicks, so they knew to stay away from this one. idk. but I bought a copy and there has not been a day gone by that I didn't listen to it since it's release. I like it, but like I said, I don't think it is as good as the first...

I know I'm not going anywhere in that direction. I happen to like Mother; and I also happen to like Amelita. That's my bottom line.
