I'll be the first to admit that Broadway isn't everyone's cup of tea. A lot of people thought Linda had gone off the deep end by doing THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE on Broadway, as Mabel (reprising the role for the 1983 film version), but it ended up turning out fairly well for her.
And who knows what Carrie will do with THE SOUND OF MUSIC? I've never been sold on her, but perhaps I could be persuaded to change my mind.

Garrett Goodwin (Carrie's drummer) and girlfriend Netanya Simpson announced their engagement during this tour. This is a video of the couple shot in New York last month (I think the music accompanying this video is from Irish Roots Rock band, Little Green Cars)

I mentioned earlier that Jamelle Fraley (Carrie's background singer for the last five years) was set to leave the band, but postponed that decision for the 2012 part of the Blown Away tour. Now, however, her new plans have come to fruition and she'll no longer be with the band when the Spring leg of the tour resumes. Fans will certainly miss her - but also wish her well for her new project. She and her husband Brandon, who met at Belmont University, and have each been performing support roles with other artists, are now launching their own duo, Two Story Road. They have a new, well designed website, with photos, an introduction video and clips of their music, which fans might like to check out: twostoryroad.com/

The "Blown Away" Tour has ended, after 112 concerts. To celebrate that, and a friend's upcoming wedding, Carrie is taking a short holiday in Mexico with a few of her Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority sisters She's been posting pictures, including this one: /photo/1Fans may also like to know that a Tour DVD will be issued, filmed at her concert at Ontario, California

I saw the announcement about the concert DVD. I'd like to see it. She played a show in Dublin but obviously it was without all the props etc because it was a small venue.
I'm surprised it's taken so long for her to release one.

This article may be of some general interest to followers of the music scene, since it gives some idea of the amount of preparation and technical input that goes into these glitzy headline tours. www.plsn.com/current-issue/49-features/10292-carrie-underwoods-blown-away-tour.htmlIt's from a magazine aimed at lighting and staging professionals, and is written from the perspective of Raj Kapoor, the tour's visual planing director, and some of his colleagues. Carrie's tour is not one of the "giant" stadium-stuffers - she still aims at a large number of dates in more medium venues (which gives maximum accessibility to her current fan base). Nevertheless, the display aspects of the concert involve a big outlay on resources, and give an indication of the current preoccupation of tour organizers with providing a general entertainment experience to rival television and video.

Carrie's now giving her fan club party. This is a free annual event - but some spend a lot just getting to Nashville. This year has been more controversial, because Sony moved it from the Opry (Carrie's virtual home base) to the Hall of Fame, which wanted it to coincide with an exhibition of her tour paraphenalia they're putting on. The problem is that the Hall of Fame can hold far fewer people. As a compromise, a live stream is being shown, accessible to any member.
I'm not a member, but from the reports I'm getting, Carrie turned up with songwriter friends and is taking it along the lines of the Songwriter night she did a few months ago - As far as I can tell, all acoustic, with random jokes, Carrie taking turns to sing backup for Hillary, Josh Kear singing a parody version of Before He Cheats, etc. (Whether they introduce words radio won't play, as they did last time, remains to be seen - but I'm not sure the event will be exactly what the Hall of Fame had in mind.) Fan reports seem appreciative, though, with comments like I wish Country radio was like this.

Carrie with shorter hair distilleryimage10.ak.instagram.com/357b6270cd4d11e2a63622000a9e28ec_7.jpg(I've heard there've been a few regrets that Carrie didn't sing all the songs herself - but that misses the point she's trying to make. It's a team effort - this is what, to a large extent, drives the format - and she gives the impression of feeling more at home with the songwriting community than she seems to be with some of the headline artists.)

I think it's cool that she had some songwriters with her for the FC party. All the people in the audience have surely seen Carrie in concert a number of times at this stage. I like that she did something different here. Regarding the change to a smaller venue, I can understand why some people are disappointed with that.

Carrie has just marked her fifth anniversary, as the Grand Ole Opry's youngest ever full member, in an emotional performance. Her membership was not only surprising to some traditionalists - it has also surprised the Industry by the almost unprecedented extent to which she's combined a Mainstream chart career with regular returns there. I've lost count of her number of appearances there - somewhere between 40 & 50, including dates during tour years, for nominal wages. The relationship has been a mutual one, with the Opry regarded as her most consistent Nashville ally. Pete Fisher, the Opry's General Manager paid her a fulsome tribute: "You have far surpassed the high expectations we had when we brought you into the family, and we know it is going to continue into the future. You are not only so good for country music, you are so good for the Grand Ole Opry, and you are so good for America. We appreciate all that you do.†This composite photo shows the Opry's anniversary memento on the right, and on the left the cup cakes made by Carrie's best friend, Ivey Childers (wife of her band leader), who runs a bakery in Franklin. /photo/1/large

The "End it" campaign is fighting on behalf of the large numbers of people in the world today still forced to work under various forms of slavery. Carrie has used the campaign's symbol on her Twitter account, and the movement also posted this picture of her displaying it on her hand on stage, with the caption "Check out country music artist & Freedom Fighter @carrieunderwood rocking the ⌠on her tour! #enditmovement"/photo/1

Some may find this Billboard trade article interesting - it discusses Carrie's tour and upcoming live DVD, under the title "Carrie Underwood builds an uncertain future on a classic past" One feature of the article (often missed in the more popular coverage) is the connection between Carrie's role today and that of some of her forerunners in the Mainstream Country format. It particularly focuses on the conflicting demands for intimacy and "over the top" stage spectaculars that have long been a characteristic source of tension in the format. It also discusses Carrie's vocal range, and the uncertainty of being able to sustain it in later years - with insights from Carrie, including her belief in not allowing "tweaking" of her live performance (a source of both admiration and criticism on discussion boards), and her acceptance of the uncertainties in her career. To read the article, which is from Billboard's business wing, you may have to wade through a plethora of trade adverts (I'm grateful to blogger "Windmills" for the link) www1.billboard.biz/bbbiz/photos/pdf/2013/country_update_0805.pdf

An incident captured in a short video by a concert goer - Carrie fell on stage, when she seemed to catch her heel in the trailing edge of her shawl-like garment But - on with the show! - she continues the song from the ground, without missing a line (It was, though, a bit more serious than the video suggests - she'll have to wear a brace to support her ankle for a couple of weeks)
