We finally saw it last evening, in a small cinema with about half a dozen others. So at least there was no risk of getting bleach poured over us by noisy yobs! Disappointing, in a word. "Why was Snape the Half-Blood Prince? - Read the book!" . Come off it! The books and films are supposed to be for real kids, not just grown-up ones, no? The how and why posed by the very title happen to be key to the Hogwarts year and the finale, as well as the future storyline. And where was the action in the supposedly shocking finale, all those bits where almost the entire staff and pupils of Hogwarts were battling Death-Eaters through the corridors, staircases and battlements? OK, so we had some nice SFX for a few seconds at the hidden lake, immediately before the climax of the tale. Dumping 95% of the climax suggests that the Director, Writer and / or Warner Bros ran out of cash, inspiration or both. In its place we had a very tame end, with so low-key a last scene that I very much doubt if most of those who haven't read the books came out with any great desire to see the next instalment ... So the next film will have to be very hyped up, again. Trouble is, we know that it won't contain any final showdown or real action sequences, because the Director has already told us so. Expect an even quieter end to Deathly Hallows Part I, then ... HP and the HBP has ample room for the restoration of the humour so lacking in the films. Teenage love and magical confusion offered a great platform, surely? I thought the youngsters acted well in the bits which were kept in, despite the direction often being pretty bad! One has to be very sharp to catch some of the half-lines retained, and there is only so much time (as a percentage) one can laugh at Rupert Grint looking love-struck. I can't think that Rowling can really have been happy at what ended up on screen, even if she did approve the script. Pity it'll be the same Director for the last two films ...

At least now I don't feel so bad for falling asleep multiple times. I liked all the previous movies. The first two I thought were a touch slow in parts. The next three I've seen several times, as I thought they were quite good. The last one... ZZZzzz...
